Would You Pay To Watch The Olympics In A Movie Theater?

Good news everybody! You will be able to watch the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics at AMC Theaters nationwide!

Just what you always wanted!

Said no one ever.

Beginning July 27 to August 11, people will be able to watch the daytime Olympics at 160 AMC Theater locations nationwide. The events will not be free and theatergoers will still have to pay for tickets.

I'm sorry, but this is going to end up being a disaster.

WOULD YOU PAY TO WATCH THE OLYMPICS?

First off, who is the intended audience for this?

I highly doubt people are going to take a half-day at work, so they can enjoy a nice, hot summer day inside a movie theater of all places. And for the last remaining 65+ demographic that still has NBC Network television - to think they are going to leave the comfort of their recliner chairs and head to the mall is a stretch.

You may get a couple of kid's birthday parties or camp field trips, but I don't think that's going to bring the financial return that NBC and AMC are hoping for.

SUMMER OLYMPICS BEGIN ON JULY 27

This would have been a good idea in the 1990s. But today? It doesn't work when restaurants and bars have massive televisions and people have 62-inch screens in their basements.

Not to mention that the overall interest in the Olympic Games has rapidly decreased. The 2022 Tokyo Olympics were down 42 percent from the 2016 Rio Summer Games, making them the lowest televised ever.

Sure, Americans will root for Team USA athletes this summer - but to think they are going to spend money and do so in a theater is just asinine.

Especially when NBC is kicking things off with the Opening Ceremony taking place as a boat parade! Talk about a snooze!
