LeBron Calls For NBA Announcer To Be Fired
UPDATE: Consor says he thought Kevin Porter Jr's father was the former NBA player, Kevin Porter:
LeBron James wants the NBA to fire a local Washington Wizards broadcaster who during a recent broadcast either made a cruel joke or just chose his words very poorly.
On Wednesday night, Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. hit a game-winning buzzer-beater to put Houston on top of Washington. During the Wizards' broadcast on NBC Sports Washington, analyst Glenn Consor narrated the shot as follows:
“You’ve got to give credit. Kevin Porter Jr., like his dad, pulled that trigger right at the right time."
Porter's father, Bryan Kevin Porter Sr., pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the shooting of a 14-year-old girl in 1993. Then someone shot Porter's father dead in 2004 during a bar fight after he was released from prison.
Here was LeBron's response to Consor's commentary:
Consor's remarks do prompt some questions.
First, was Consor really dumb enough to make a cringe reference to a player's father shooting a child? Did Consor have the story wrong -- really wrong? Or did Consor mistake Kevin Porter Jr's father with the Kevin Porter who played in the NBA during the 70s, as some have suggested online?
It's hard to imagine a professional broadcaster purposely mocking on air the violent death of a 14-year-old girl. But who knows.
Either way, Consor likely won't survive this moment. Given LeBron's influence, Consor's career is likely over. LeBron will make sure of that.
