John Cena Confirms WWE Return

Wait a minute, a headline from late night TV in 2021?

On The Tonight Show Wednesday, John Cena confirmed to Jimmy Fallon that his return to WWE is imminent.

"Those rumors are true," Cena told Fallon on reports that he will soon return to the WWE.

Cena has not appeared on WWE television since WrestleMania 36 on March 26, 2020.

While Cena was coy on an exact return date, multiple reports say WWE plans to have Cena main event SummerSlam in a match against Roman Reigns on August 21, 2021. Furthermore, given the magnitude of a Reigns-Cena main event, expect Cena back several weeks before SummerSlam.

Reigns is in the midst of an all-time heel run, known as The Head of the Table. The character works so well that wrestling fans in the 90s are in awe.

The challenge, however, has been finding Reigns equal opponents. Reigns has elevated to such a stature that few current performers can match his star power.

Insert John Cena. Aside from Reigns-Rock, Reigns-Cena is the biggest money match in wrestling.

I still can't believe I'm paying attention to late night TV in 2021. I must really miss John Cena in the ring.
