Herschel Walker Sure Sounds Like He Is Set To Run In Georgia
In April, Herschel Walker told Maria Bartiromo that he's considering a run for Senate in 2022 to challenge radical Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA). Walker's cryptic tweet over the weekend may indicate he's a step closer to a decision.
Count the New York Times among the outlets that interpreted Walker's 21-second video as a hint that he's about to run. TheTimes writes that Walker would put former President Donald J. Trump’s "power as a kingmaker to the test."
Trump is undoubtedly still the leader of the Republican party. His endorsements alone elevate candidates to GOP favorites. Walker, whom Trump previously said would be an "unstoppable" politician, is in that group.
Couple Trump's support with Walker's popularity in Georgia, where he played college football, and Walker vs. Warnock is a real possibility.
Warnock is a vulnerable incumbent who won because Republican voters didn't turn out as expected in the special election following the 2020 presidential election, an election that many believe was fraught with fraud. While that bodes well for the GOP, some Republicans fear that Walker's political inexperience could give Warnock an upper hand.
In a 50-50 Senate that's considered up for grabs in 2022, Georgia is again key to power in DC. Neither party can afford to take a risk. That said, other Republicans see Walker as the strongest candidates to represent the state of Georgia, and I agree.
Walker has not set a timetable for a final decision, telling Fox News he's not in a rush.
“My family, we’re still going through this process of praying and really considering it. And at the same time, I take it very seriously. And people want me to decide, like, right now. And I said, ‘Guys, I want to take my time because this is a very serious, serious thing.'"
