Herschel Walker is considering a run for Senate in 2022 to bid against radical Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA).
Sunday, Maria Bartiromo pressed Walker on the idea.
“We know that former President Trump wants you to run for Senate,” Bartiromo began. “What is the answer? Are you considering running for the Senate seat in Georgia in the 2022 race?”
Walker says that he has consulted his family and that he is “really considering it,” but that he doesn’t have an answer today.
“I’m very honored that they would consider me running for the Senate,” Walker replies. “My family, we’re still going through this process of praying and really considering it. And at the same time, I take it very seriously. And people want me to decide, like, right now. And I said, ‘Guys, I want to take my time because this is a very serious, serious thing.’
“But I will tell you this,” he goes on. “Hershel Walker believes in God. I believe in this country. I believe in the people. And I’m going to fight for the people of Georgia if I run, so just stay tuned. And I tell you what, it’s going to be exciting.”
Democrats Warnock and Jon Ossoff both defeated their Republican opponents in January’s runoff election, which gave the Democrats a majority in the 50-50 U.S. Senate because Vice President Kamala Harris can cast a tie-breaking vote. Critics blamed the semi-surprising wins on Republican voters not turning out because they believed that there was significant voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
In 2022, Georgia’s senatorial race will rank among the most noteworthy political storylines and could again decide the Senate majority. Warnock may be a vulnerable incumbent, but if so, he likely won’t be alone.
Herschel Walker, the former Georgia Bulldog running back, is popular in Georgia among both Democrats and Republicans. Walker is, if nothing, else a candidate to keep an eye on.
