Mac Jones Now Strong Betting Favorite To Be Selected No. 3 Overall

The San Francisco 49ers traded with the Miami Dolphins for the No. 3 pick back in March. Since then, people have constantly speculated about which quarterback they will take.

At this point, we still don't know who it will be, but we have a better idea based on rumors and Vegas betting lines.

FanDuel Sportsbook has Alabama quarterback Mac Jones as the odds-on favorite to be taken No. 3 overall. He currently sits at -210, while Ohio State's Justin Fields (+160) and North Dakota State's Trey Lance (+300) check in behind him.

Although Jones going third overall isn't new, it is new for the gambling odds to support that idea.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan does have experience with quarterbacks similar to Jones. Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan and even Jimmy Garoppolo are need to win from within the pocket. That is a strong suit for Jones.

However, the Davey O'Brien Award winner doesn't have the same ceiling as others. Fields and Lance have some question marks, but at their best, they are likely better signal callers than Jones. Are they safer picks? No, but they are the kind of guys you trade up for -- even if you have to surrender multiple first-round picks.

Jones is going to be a good quarterback in the NFL. If he ends up in San Francisco, he is going to do well. The team has a strong offensive line in place now that they've re-signed Trent Williams and added Alex Mack. Plus, the receiver options -- Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle -- are all guys who can create after the catch.

That's something Jones had in Tuscaloosa, which helped him succeed.

Whether 49ers fans want to admit it or not, Jones wouldn't be the worst pick. He just might not be the best either. Time will tell.
