The Ohio State football program got more quarterback reinforcements over the weekend, as five-star freshman Quinn Ewers finally arrived on campus in Columbus.
By now, most everyone knows that Ewers was supposed to be gearing up to play his senior season at Southlake Carroll High School in Texas. But after changes were made allowing college athletes to capitalize off of their name, image and likeness, Ewers had a change of plans.
Instead of being a part of Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class, the nation’s top overall player reclassified to the class of 2021 and will now compete to earn some sort of role with the Buckeyes.
On Monday, the team’s official Twitter account shared a first-look picture of Ewers at practice. Check it out.

The Ohio State quarterback room is now littered with even more talent.
Ewers joins Kyle McCord as the second five-star signal caller who’s part of that 2021 recruiting class. Surprisingly enough, it’s possible — likely, even — that neither one of those first-year players will make the two deep, as C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller continue to battle it out for the starting job.
Still, just look at this group:
- Quinn Ewers: 5-star / No. 1 overall / No. 1 QB (2021)
- Kyle McCord: 5-star / No. 28 overall / No. 6 QB (2021)
- C.J. Stroud: 4-star / No. 42 overall / No. 2 PS-QB (2020)
- Jack Miller: 4-star / No. 334 overall / No. 13 PS-QB (2020)
Four quarterbacks in the last two classes, three of whom were top-50 players.
The Buckeyes could soon be dealing with that other new rule made during the offseason. You know, the one that allows players to transfer once without the penalty of sitting out? With that crop of young talent, it’s unlikely that they’re able to keep all of them.
But man it’s an impressive collection of talent regardless.

Wonder which one hit the player portal when they don’t start.
