Lawsuit Filed Against Conor McGregor Ahead Of UFC 257

UFC star Conor McGregor may have another major fight on his hands. Only this one may not involve flying fists and broken noses.

According to multiple news outlets, McGregor is facing a multimillion dollar personal injury lawsuit, filed by woman and involving an undisclosed event in 2018.

McGregor is scheduled to fight Dustin Poirier for a second time, Saturday in UFC 257. It will mark the UFC's first Pay-Per-View event of 2021.

But McGregor could very well have 2018 on his mind, as the lawsuit stemming from the alleged incident was filed Monday in McGregor's homeland of Ireland. The mother of the woman involved also filed a separate and smaller lawsuit against McGregor.

"The root of the issue was originally investigated by An Garda Siochana (the national police service for the Republic of Ireland), but charges were not filed, as pointed out by McGregor spokesperson Karen J Kessler," reported Brent Brookhouse of CBS Sports.

This won't be McGregor's first run-in with legal issues. He's experienced several arrests and lawsuits in the past, including an incident in which he punched an elderly man for refusing McGregor's offer to buy him a drink while in a pub in Dublin.

"After an exhaustive investigation conducted by the Gardaí which, in addition to interviews of the plaintiff, included interviewing numerous sources, obtaining witnesses' statements, examining closed circuit footage and the cooperation of Conor McGregor, these allegations were categorically rejected," McGregor representative Karen J. Kessler said about the latest lawsuit in a statement. "The plaintiff knows the facts contradict the assertions in this lawsuit. Mr. McGregor will dispute any claims and is confident that justice will prevail."
