Bears head coach Matt Nagy hinted to the media on Monday that Nick Foles could potentially be in line to start in Week 4 against the Lions after Fields suffered a hand injury, although X-rays were negative after the Bears lost 26-6 to the Browns on Sunday.
The Chicago Tribune reports Dalton practiced with a compression sleeve on his left leg and Fields with a brace on his right wrist that extended to his thumb — but it could be a day or two before the Chicago Bears name a starter for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Nagy avoided answering anything when asked about who will call plays after Fields’ debut and loss to the Browns, but remained set that Dalton would be the Bears’ starter once he is healthy enough to play.
Dalton completed 9-of-11 passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in less than two quarters against the Bengals before being injured.
His left knee appeared to buckle, and he immediately pointed to Fields to enter the game and headed to the blue injury tent to be examined. The QB initially appeared to be OK and went back in for a series, but then he went back to the locker room before the half and was later ruled out.
Fields went 6-for-13 for 60 yards with an interception and rushed 10 times for 31 yards against the Bengals in Week 2. He completed the two passes he threw in Week 1 during the loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
