Jaguars' Urban Meyer Doesn't Bite On Trevor Lawrence Speculation

Urban Meyer is now the high-profile head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he left the door open for his new team to pass on the highest-profile quarterback entering the 2021 NFL Draft.

Because of their 1-15 finish, the Jaguars have the No. 1 overall pick, and the entire sports-loving universe expects them to take Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. And let's be real clear here -- they will take Lawrence.

But Meyer apparently felt obligated to mention a few others when the subject was broached during his introductory press conference.

"Well you see Trevor, you see Justin (Fields), you see Zach (Wilson)," Meyer said. "You know, this is going to be, as (Jaguars owner Shad Khan), this is a monumental moment for this franchise. And we've seen some franchises explode, and we've seen others fail."

In other words, Meyer is trying to trick people into believing the QB-starved Jags are keeping their options open. But at least he admitted a QB is indeed the focus.

"I've said this many times throughout my career, is that when the NFL says it's a quarterback league, I would say, 'Well so is college. And so is high school. So is Pop Warner. It's a quarterback sport,'" Meyer said. "So whoever takes that snap, we've got to be right on."
