Jaguars To 'Kick The Tires' On Other QBs, But Locked Into Trevor Lawrence

When the Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Chicago Bears in December, it marked what may be the greatest moment in the team’s history — a No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars — a team that ended the season 1-15 overall — relied on the New York Jets’ victory over the Cleveland Browns to truly define them as the worst team in the league, securing the draft’s top pick.

MMQB's NFL reporter Albert Breer was asked about the Jaguars and the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft this week, and he said all eyes are on Trevor Lawrence.

"I don't think there's any way it's anybody but Trevor Lawrence,” Breer said. “I think are going to go through the process and kick the tires on all these guys.”

Breer said despite never coaching, Meyer is familiar with Ohio State QB Justin Fields and said Brigham Young QB Zach Wilson is an interesting prospect.

“But in the end, scouts and coaches who have looked at on tape all say the same thing — which is that this is a generational-type quarterback prospect,” he said.

Breer said Lawerance is the type of prospect that doesn’t come along very often.

“The chance to get a sure thing, to have that sort of building block, it's a huge reason I think Urban decided to go to Jacksonville in the first place and ultimately why most people across the league saw it as the most attractive job opening,” Breer said.

Lawrence remained the unanimous choice at No. 1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft among analysts featured in this week's Jacksonville Jaguars mock draft tracker.
