Jacksonville Jaguars' Chris Doyle Resigns Amid Controversy

New Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer announced that his coaching staff was finalized on Thursday, but less than 48 hours later, his controversy riddled staff had already fallen apart.

Meyer named the new Jags director of sports performance on Thursday and said he had no reservations about Chris Doyle.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported around 11:15 p.m. on Friday that Doyle had resigned from the Jags coaching staff. Meyer said the team failed to consider the impacts of Doyle's hiring.

"Chris Doyle came to us this evening to submit his resignation and we have accepted," Meyer said in a statement. "Chris did not want to be a distraction to what we are building in Jacksonville. We are responsible for all aspects of our program and, in retrospect, should have given greater consideration to how his appointment may have affected all involved. We wish him the best as he moves forward in his career."

ESPN reports Iowa and Doyle reached a separation agreement as a result of allegations made by multiple Black players.

Doyle did not admit to any wrongdoing as he departed from Iowa. He denied allegations from former players that claimed he was racist and tweeted: "I do not make racists comments and I don't tolerate people who do."

Doyle's resignation comes hours after Fritz Pollard Alliance executive director Rod Graves — an organization devoted to championing diversity in the NFL — blasted the Jaguars and Meyer for hiring Doyle.

Around the NFL reported on Thursday that Meyer said he was "very confident" Doyle would have no issues in Jacksonville — he said the two have known each other for close to 20 years.

Doyle's name has since been removed from the Jaguars' coaching staff.
