It’s Looking Like Tyrod Taylor Will Take Over For Texans At QB

The Houston Texans are designating quarterback Tyrod Taylor to return from injured reserve on Wednesday.

Taylor went down with a hamstring injury in the second half of the game against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 19 and was placed on the IR on Sept. 21.

The team announced Wednesday that Taylor is clear to return.

Taylor, who has been on the IR since Week 2, returned to practice Wednesday and is expected to start this week against the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson reports.

Texans head coach David Culley said rookie third-round quarterback Davis Mills will still take the first-team reps in practice Wednesday, mentioning that Taylor doesn’t need the reps to prepare.

Taylor, a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011, went on to sign with the Bills for the 2015 season. Taylor played out the final year of a two-year, $30.5 million contract before agreeing to a two-year contract worth $11 million with the Los Angeles Chargers. The 32-year-old went then signed a one-year deal with the Texans worth up to $12.5 million for the 2021 season, NFL Trade Rumors reports.

Taylor has appeared in two games for the Texans this season and completed 70.45% of his passes for 416 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 55 yards and a touchdown.

The Texans will face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8 on Sunday at 1 p.m. at NRG Stadium.
