Is Conor McGregor Getting Back Into The Boxing Ring?

Videos by OutKick

Still nursing a broken leg and chronic arthritis in his ankle, Conor McGregor is unlikely to return to an octagon, soccer field or balance beam anytime soon. But, he may be eyeing a return to the boxing ring. Never shy about throwing hands, Notorious used an Instagram live session to hint at the possibility of again dabbling in the sweet science.

With boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso, among those viewing McGregor’s unscheduled Instagram live, the multi-time UFC champ gave the boxer’s camp a shout out: “Canelo Team, bless you, champ, my man, appreciate you, sir. Eddy Reynoso, big fan of your work and what you’re doing with those guys in the gym. One day we’ll get to train, I hope so.”

McGregor, whose only professional boxing experience came via a 2017 loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., teased the idea that he’ll be boxing regardless of how his ankle recovers: “One thing’s for sure, I’ll be able to box. So you know, I’ll be out here until mid-October anyway, I think. I’ll know after this scan how long I’ll be here, but I’d love to get training with you sir, sometime in the future. I’m sure we will. Thank you for the support.”

Last time McGregor stepped inside the ropes, he and Mayweather Jr. generated nearly 4.5 million pay-per-view buys. Both fighters reportedly walked away with more than $100 million for a night’s work. Recovery aside, trading bare feet for boxing boots makes dollars and sense.
