Game of Thrones Prequel Casts Lead Actor

House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel, has cast Paddy Considine as a lead.

Considine will star as the fascinating King Viserys Targaryen.

Considine comes off a phenomenal performance in HBO's The Outsider, one of the best shows of 2020. His selection is a home run for the next installment of Westeros.

House of the Dragon is expected sometime in 2022. The series is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, which was released before Winds of Winter.

The show, which focuses on the Targaryens, is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

So far, the hype has been kept to a minimum, partly because of some lingering frustration with the end of GoT and partly because GRRM material has all but run out. The good news that GoT showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will not be involved with House of Dragon.

Instead, Ryan Condal will show-run with Miguel Sapochnik, who directed the GoT episodes with the most CGI: "Hardhome," "Battle of the Bastards," "The Winds of Winter," "The Long Night," and "The Bells."

Though GoT fans have much to celebrate, HBO has given the greenlight to the wrong prequel. The network axed a series based on White Walkers before giving approval for the one based on Targaryen.

There's still much to learn about the mysterious creatures that keep millions of TV viewers on Reddit to speculate about origin, potential, and desire. At this point, what we know about the White Walkers right now is all we are ever likely to know. Which is nothing.
