Keyshawn Johnson is in discussions with ESPN to join their morning radio show, sources tell Outkick. The former NFL wide receiver has been a successful morning radio show co-host on ESPN Radio in Los Angeles since 2016.
We are also hearing that ESPN’s first choice to be Johnson’s co-host is Max Kellerman. Kellerman has previously hosted ESPN Radio in New York and Los Angeles. If Kellerman does indeed join the show, options include doing radio straight through into First Take, or perhaps turning First Take into a program where Stephen A. Smith is the only regular opinionist, with a rotating cast of guests.
The future is unknown for Mike Golic and Trey Wingo. Wingo, whose deal expires later this year, has wanted off morning radio. But he could have interest in a show later in the day. Golic has been in ESPN Radio morning drive for over 20 years — mostly with Mike Greenberg, before Wingo joined in late 2017 — so if it does wind up being Keyshawn and Kellerman in that spot it would truly be the end of an era.
An ESPN spokesperson declined to comment.
