Emails Show Teachers Unions Influenced CDC Guidelines On Masking Children

Videos by OutKick

Teachers unions were in contact with the Biden White House and executives from the CDC once mask guidelines began to soften.

On Wednesday, emails emerged showing considerable requests from the National Education Association that are traced to the CDC’s dropping then reconsidering mask mandates back in May. Included in the correspondence is a scripted statement from the NEA, tacitly encouraging the CDC to walk back their anti-masking recommendation for classrooms.

Obtained by Fox News and provided by Americans for Public Trust, the emails highlight instructions from the NEA and Pres. Becky Pringle in coordination with Erika Dinkel-Smith, Biden’s director of labor engagement.

Their conversation included the NEA’s ultimatum for the CDC and Dr. Rochelle Walensky to recommend masking for children, threatening to release a scathing response to the new public health guidelines. The statement reads:

“We appreciate the developing nature of the science and its implications for guidance, but releasing the guidance without accompanying school-related updates creates confusion and fuels the internal politicization of this basic health and safety issue. CDC has consistently said, and studies support, that mitigation measures, including to protect the most vulnerable, remain necessary in schools and institutions of higher education – particularly because no elementary or middle school students, and few high school students, have been vaccinated.”

The NEA’s proposed statement influenced the Centers to reinstate masks for the classroom and leaves the door open for more restrictions down the line.
