We did say this was inevitable right? Dustin Johnson cruised to his first win at Augusta with his final round 67. He also ditches that narrative he can’t protect a 54-hole lead. In the end, he walked to the clubhouse to get fitted for his green jacket at -20. No one’s ever done that in a major.
Not even Tiger Woods.

Winning The Masters is the hardest and most pressure packed tournament in the world, and DJ just made it look easy. Sure, he got it done without an audience, but every other player dealt with those same conditions.
Dustin Johnson not only breaks the longest drought after leading through 54-holes, he sets the scoring record at Augusta, and also managed the fewest bogeys in the history of The Masters. Decent week for D.J.
For those wondering–that’s a cool $2.07 million check for the FedEx champion.
Johnson’s contemporaries illustrated exactly what happened after their final rounds. Plenty of “he was just too good” and “when you start 16 under after day three, there’s not much you can do,” mentioned Rory McIlroy.
They’re right. They had no chance, which is why we were able to tell our Outkick readers this thing was a wrap yesterday. A historical run for a player that not only managed those tough Augusta National greens, but dominated them.

More Records
We couldn’t let this one slide because it honestly feels like an impossibility. Australia’s own Cameron Smith finished his 2020 Masters with four-consecutive rounds under 70. That’s literally never been done before since The Masters started in 1934.

You would think someone like ’05 Tiger Woods might have something to say about this stat, but no. An incredible accomplishment that shouldn’t get lost in DJ’s big win.
Luckily for fans of golf, we only have about 135 days until the opening of The 2021 Masters. Congratulations, Dustin Johnson.
Congrats to a classy dude well deserved
Agreed. DJ showed why he’s #1 in the world. But I was hoping for a little more drama. Watching the Sunday back 9 at Augusta with several contenders within a couple shots of the lead is one of my favorite sporting events to watch.
