Disney Goes Double Barrel at Gavin Newsom and the State of California

Videos by OutKick

Earlier this month, we told you about an ongoing battle between Disney chairman Bob Iger and California governor Gavin Newsom. It’s a heavyweight battle between two titans who could very well vie for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination. Iger is apoplectic that Newsom’s regulations are keeping Disneyland shut down while Disney World operates in Florida. COVID shutdowns and regulations have presented serious challenges to Disney parks, movies, and cruises around the globe this year. The New York Times says that fears regarding the park’s reopening have not come true. Iger resigned from Newsom’s economic recovery task force at the beginning of October and relations have grown frostier ever since.

Just today, Disney issued a scathing statement aimed at California leaders:

This is practically a public declaration of war. We can only wonder how things will escalate from here.

  1. A great study on when liberals eat their own. Newsom’s a straight up Socialist dictator who just happens to be a multi- millionaire. But right now between him and Iger, Newsome seems to have the bigger Toobin. Cant wait for the next chapter to this book.

  2. The fools in cali need to quit electing these far left liberal politicians which they have been electing for decades don’t feel sorry one bit they are getting what they deserve. I was born and raised there in socal used to be a really great state but that’s been awhile ago and i got the hell out i guess Disney should have followed suit.

  3. 2 years ago I visited SF with my grandson to see the Giants. Will NEVER again visit SF or California, where now we all can see vagrants shitting on major thoroughfares garbage piled high, drivers resembling those in Cairo or Mexico City – making 3 lanes into 6 and ignoring traffic lights. But the primary reason I will never return is the state government. These politicians can only swear to uphold the Constitution by either being ignorant of the Constitution or by blatantly lying. The Democrats have transformed California into Paradise Ruined.

  4. The local government pulled the same on small business owners in San Fran, especially Hair and Nail care places. These businesses spent thousands to prepare to open back up only to have the rug pulled out from beneath them. (Perhaps, if Disney had advocated for these small businesses? Oh nevermind…)

  5. As someone who lives 15 minutes from Disneyland and is moving to Texas in April, I am happy to see them realize their stupidity but sad for the 15+ people I know that work at Disneyland and are begging to go back to work. It is sad to see the stupidity of this state. If Newsom runs and wins presidency in 2024 we are all in trouble.

  6. Progressives attacking progressives. Quite unusual. I suspect Gov. Newsom will never personally feel the sting of any policy decisions made during this time or any other time for that matter. CA just released guidelines for Xmas gatherings. Among these include a two hour time limit on gatherings as well as the host getting the names of everyone who attends the gathering. This is just a peak into the mindset there. The voters in CA did this to themselves. If you want to confuse a Newsom voter, just ask them who they voted for the next time they complain about the ongoing Draconian rules in CA. You’ll likely be met with a blank stare of disconnection to cause and effect.

If the dems lose the presidency in November, I’m sure Gov. Newsom will want to take his show on the road to the nation’s capitol. You have to wonder how severe the voter amnesia will be in 2024.

  7. Disneyland is in the city of Anaheim. That city has the second highest death/case rate barely behind the city of Santa Ana. The population of those cities are unique. Orange County could advance to looser restrictions however, those two cities alone hold back the entire county. I’ll leave it at that. That’s what Newsome and others are afraid to discuss publicly.

  8. I really hope Disney can find a way to get Newsome out. We are trying to RECALL him but it feels like a never-ending process we can’t finish. He has no answers to our power grid, he continued the poor mismanagement of the forests and blames the wildfires on Climate change, and he continues to give thousands of dollars to illegal aliens in this pandemic but refuses to let Disney workers, who’ve spent over a decade crafting and honing their Cast Member roles, to work for their income. He let his aunt get a blowout when every other woman was sent to their kitchen beauticians for a homestyle hairdress and now he wants to fine us $100, for not giving a damn about a facemask when we are at a park in open air 10 feet from anyone else. Am I the only sane person in California or am I just living alone on lunacy island? This man is a coked-out asshole who had an affair with his campaign manager’s wife and still gets elected…what world are we living in? Right is wrong and down is up. He can keep Plumpjack winery open while every other bar/restaurant stays closed during the 4th of July. This is bonkers and he is the supreme doinker
