Detroit Police Had Their Hands Full During A Saturday Night Melee In Greektown

Thinking of heading to Greektown Casino in downtown Detroit to blow through some money and hit up one of the dining establishments after a Tigers game now that Gretchen Whitmer's going to allow full capacity at Comerica Park? Keep in mind that Greektown was a complete mess Saturday night as groups broke off into fights that eventually escalated to the locals assaulting police officers, according to the Detroit Police Department.

And Fox 2 Detroit reports this isn't the first Greektown incident like this over the last few weekends. People are back out on the street, getting liquored up, fighting and shooting guns.

"I see it through the windows and watch it with the owners and it makes an unsafe environment for the patrons that come to patronize the business so I just don't understand it," one business owner told the news outlet. "I don't know what the answer is necessarily."

Whitmer yanked the COVID bar curfews and restrictions on June 2. Multiple people were arrested Saturday and 13 weapons were confiscated by those in the crowd.

Thinking about a post-COVID night in Greektown like the old days? You've been warned.

Meanwhile, the Detroit police commissioner is warning people his officers are ready to send them to jail if they continue to have incidents like Saturday night.

“When you come to Downtown Detroit, be on your best behavior. Be in control of your actions,” Willie Burton said. “Because, when you are not, you’re leaving no choice but to work with Detroit police officers to ensure that you get a little vacation.”
