Well, this news won’t ease Democrats as they head into the weekend to wherever they spend their off days. Hopefully, somewhere nice.
Three years ago, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis narrowly defeated Democrat Andrew Gillum. The race was so tight it led to a machine recount. However, Democrats have far less confidence ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial race. Some prominent Democrats think challenging DeSantis would only waste money.
According to a report by Politico, the Democratic Governors Association has no plans to give significant financial help to Florida Democrats who seek to unseat Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022.
The perception among the DGA is that DeSantis is “unbeatable,” and that the resources should instead go toward protecting incumbent governors elsewhere.
“I do think, and I can’t stress this enough, the DGA is playing mostly defense this year, and that’s a monumental change,” Jonathan Ducote, a veteran Democratic consultant who has worked with the group, says.
“When I think about Florida statewide elections, the number one thing you have to ask yourself is do you have the money to communicate in a really expensive state?”
A second person working with the DGA also believes the group won’t put resources into challenging DeSantis, saying:
“DeSantis is looking strong politically and financially, and there are states like Massachusetts, Maryland and Arizona where they see potential pickups on top of incumbent protection.
“They might do some money, but they are not going the way they have been in the past. There are not going to be multi-million-dollar checks.”
DeSantis’ potential Democratic opponents include Charlie Crist, Nikki Fried, Annette Taddeo, all of whom trail DeSantis by double digits in polling:

Charlie Crist (D) 35%

So while Florida Democrats could lack the DGA’s support in 2022, the media surely won’t bail in the fight against Ron DeSantis. CBS and ABC are loyal soldiers, willing to go down with the ship.
