'Yellowjackets' Creator Offers Promising Update On Season 3

It sounds like "Yellowjackets" fans will see a return to the old ways with season three.

The Showtime hit series came out of nowhere to be a massive hit once it premiered in November 2021. It was the perfect combination of "Lost" and "Lord of Flies" as viewers watched a high school soccer team crash in the Canadian wilderness where things aren't at all what they appear.

The show is unbelievably dark, sinister and forces fans to keep their head on a swivel. Episode three wrapped up last May, and fans have been desperately wondering when season three will arrive after being left with a hell of a cliffhanger.

Well, that picture is becoming clear, and it's also becoming clearer what kind of tempo the new season might have.

"Yellowjackets" creator shares season three update.

"We’re in the midst of [writing] right now. I don’t want to give too much away. I always get in trouble," Lyle told The Wrap when talking about season three.

What should fans expect? It sounds like a return to the vibe of season one is one the way. Lyle added, "I will say we see Season 3 as a little bit of a return to Season 1 in terms of the vibe, though. All I will say is that the girls have been out there for awhile and they’re thriving."

Samantha Hanratty, who is famous for playing Misty, told the outlet that there is "a light start date" for when season three will start shooting in Vancouver, but it doesn't sound like anything is finalized yet.

There's two points to make here. First, a return to a heavy focus on the timeline with the team in the wilderness is the right call.

The current day timeline is certainly engaging and entertaining, but every viewer knows the timeline from the 1990s is where the show does its best work.

The girls are desperate to be saved……and the Canadian wilderness and the evil forces within it are destined to make sure that doesn't happen. That's led to some incredible carnage through two seasons, and I'd love to focus much more on that than the show did in season two.

The second point is that production not having started yet likely means fans are looking at an early 2025 release date for season three. We're already deep into March. Could Showtime really film the entire series, edit it and market it successfully prior to the year ending? It's probably possible but definitely a stretch.

So, the series is getting back to the old ways of season one, but expect a long wait. Overall, it's positive news. Let me know your thoughts on "Yellowjackets" at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
