Las Vegas Horror Stories Go Viral On Reddit

Las Vegas is fun for a lot of people, but it's also a nightmare for others.

As OutKick readers know, I'm a bit of a Vegas fanatic. Sin City is a destination I go to at least once a year. My spirit and soul require it.

Nothing is better than walking off the plane in Las Vegas with some money ready to grab a beer and make some questionable decisions at the tables.

However, it's not a great experience for everyone, and a viral Reddit thread is making that clear.

Vegas horror stories go viral on Reddit.

A Reddit thread popped up Monday afternoon asking people the worst thing they'd ever witnessed while gambling. The answers are……something to behold.

Enjoy a few unedited selections below. Presented without further comment:

  • I was slapped by another player while playing 1/2 no limit cash at the Imperial Palace in 2007. This guy was being an absolute jerk to the old guy at the table and I stuck up for the old guy, which made me a target. Got into a hand with the jerk and his friend and ended up stacking them both for a 650$ pot. Guy walks over and slaps me. I tried to get up to defend myself but the old timer bear hugged me in my chair and calmly assured me that it was not worth it. It didn't even matter because by the time I looked up security was dragging the guys ass out the front door. They had me sign a form saying I wouldn't sue. One player suggested they should give me a free buffet but another chimed in that the Imperial Palace Buffet was not a gift. Worst beat I’ve ever seen was at Caesars Palace about 10 years ago.
  • Group of guys were playing a $10 blackjack table (remember - 10 years ago) before dinner. On the last hand, we all decide to play $100. One guy gets a pair of eights with the dealer showing 4. He splits ($100), and gets another 8. He splits again ($100) and gets another 8. He splits again, and gets ANOTHER 8. He splits again ($100), and he gets ANOTHER 8. They won’t let him split more than three times. He holds on the last pair (16) since dealer is showing a 4. The other four hands he is dealt either a 2 or 3 on all of them, and he doubles down on all of them ($400). He gets good cards, but no 21s dealt. He now has $800 on the table when he normally plays a $10 hand. Tensions are high, but dealer has a 4. Dealer then gets a five card 21. I don’t remember what she was dealt, but I remember she had 16 on the fourth card. Entire table screamed "paint!" before she pulled a 5. Beyond brutal.
  • I was playing the new video craps at El Cortez on Saturday night. I was on a hot streak, 23 rolls and hadn't hit the point yet. People were pretty excited. But his dude next to me leans over and says, "I need a hard eight." And I'm like, "OK, man, I'll try for you." Then he says, "No, you need to hit a hard eight or you'll be leaving here in an ambulance." I didn't know what to say, so I just rolled. I didn't think him serious, but he had a wannabe gangster vibe going on. Thankfully like three rolls later I hit the hard eight. He cashed out his voucher and left. I told the croupier what he said and he signaled for security. Apparently the guy lost all his money the night before and caused a scene and wasn't supposed to even be in there in the first place. Apparently he would have beat my ass.
  • Not while gambling, but while working at OSheas around 2008-2010 there was allegedly a slur said in the bathroom, one punch thrown outside of the bathroom, and a man was dead. Seeing someone get killed at work is a strange thing. I've also worked through two sidewalk shootings when old OSheas was open to the strip. It was chaos, one time a lady hit in the leg was put on the closed Big 6 table while medics came, etc.
  • Over 10 straight hands, being the only person at the table, I had either a 20 or soft 21 and the dealer either pushed or beat me every single time. I felt like Clark Griswold.
  • Saw a man have a heart attack type event at the craps table. Security moved him about 20 feet from the table until an ambulance showed up. Thing is he died before they showed up and they left him there, bagged him up, and everyone just kept playing like he didn’t just die 20 feet away. Wild.
  • Runny sh*t running down the leg of a young gal in a mini skirt while she was throwing at a craps table at GVR. I almost instapuked and had to retire to my room before I caught a wiff. I'm guessing she had too much trust in a fart.
  • I visited the Belagio with my gf and her parents, I snuck down in the middle of the night and started playing on a $25 table one on one with the dealer. Few hands go by and a kid about my age, 25M, sits down with a huge stack of cash. No players card and 16k in cash, I swear to god it took 5-10 min to count and approve with the pit boss who was obviously watching this kid. The cash was fanned out across the table. Thinking back on it, it was such a huge buy in at a normal table and not a high limit, I didn’t think anything of it, but it most certainly brought attention to our table and they were very eager to get his information before he played. The dude claimed he was trying to win back " A LOT" of money, I hopped on his positive train and hoped for some solid hands and some winning. I think he had a $1200 hand to start that he ended up splitting, lost both hands on a back door 21. I’ve never seen someone lose so much, so fast, but he did. I don’t recall watching him win a hand to be honest. I’m not kidding I had $200 in chips when he sat down and was stilling playing even when he lost it all. Got up and walked away to never be seen again. I was sick to my stomach watching that happen to someone my age. I don’t care what situation he was in, he was obviously extremely impacted by that loss and I hope nothing bad happened to him afterwards.
  • Guy had a couple hundred bucks and excitedly bet his way up to $12k. Kept playing and gave it all back and looked so defeated (naturally). It was so sad. Guy looked like he really could have used $12k.
  • Playing poker, saw a guy take a bad river beat. Then he took the actual river card, put it in his mouth and started chewing/eating/swallowing it.
  • Saw a guy piss himself at the blackjack table. He was escorted out. Apparently he was superstitious and had been winning, if he got up his luck would change.
  • Playing craps. Everyone was having a good time. One guys girlfriend just spontaneously pukes all over the table and chips. She then just falls on the ground just laughing. It was like a few seconds of realization from everyone, even the dealers, and then an audible cry of groans, wtfs, and dealers calling security and janitors. They told us don’t touch the table, and one worker basically cashed everyone out or gave new clean chips. They bounced the guy and girl out fast and gave vouchers for a free meal.
  • Was walking thru Circa at about 2 AM on a Wednesday. Was in town for a furniture show for a place I worked for. Walked up to a mid Poker table just as the game was over. Some dude was all pale and shaking. He looked at me and said: "I’m bankrupt. I just gambled off me kids college tuition" and stumbled off. Dealer smiled at me and said "we got a warm seat for you!" I noped out of there fast.
  • Seen a guy at the strat taking a legit dump on the casino floor and all of a sudden a security guard who was like 7 ft 4 and looked like a villain in a fast n furious movie grabbed him by the neck and lifted him off the ground mid sh*t and I assume walked him to the door.
  • Seeing an old retired person load up the slot machine with $1000, lose it in 10 minutes then try to pawn off their jewelry to a person next to her so she could have more money to spend.
  • Some old dude lost his denchers… they fell out and landed under his seat. Had security help him find them and promptly replaced them.

That's just a taste of the comments from the viral thread. There's a few other ones I don't think I can include here, but it really goes to show Vegas isn't for everyone.

Gambling is a blast, and I won't pretend like I haven't been at the tables before the sun is up. I'm generally at the tables by no later than 7:00 a.m. when I'm in Vegas, and that's if it's a slow start to the day.

However, there seems to be a bit of a common theme. People gambling money they can't afford to lose. Here's some free advice. Don't gamble cash you can't afford to lose.
