Viagra Proves To Be The Antidote To Cure Nurse With COVID

Could the little blue pill that can result in erections lasting longer than four hours (seek medical attention!) help save lives from COVID? A nurse in the U.K. is crediting Viagra for saving her life after she ended up in the ICU and just 72 hours away from being put on a ventilator.

Monica Almeida, 37, is a fully vaccinated asthma sufferer who works as a respiratory specialist. It was Almeida who found herself in a bad spot after testing positive for COVID on Halloween. According to U.K. news outlet The Lincolnite, the mother of two lost her taste and smell and then began coughing up blood. By day five, her oxygen levels had dropped and she was in trouble and heading for the hospital.

She was discharged but returned November 9 and was put into a coma on November 16. The Lincolnite reports that Almeida made a life-saving decision before going into the coma. She agreed to be given experimental drugs and Viagra was one of those drugs.

It was administered a week into her coma and that's when it happened.

"Her lungs started responding to it and the oxygen she needed lowered by around 50% as her condition began to improve," according to the Lincolnite.

Her condition improved so much after the Viagra that she was discharged on Christmas Eve. Almeida is still dealing with regaining physical strength, but her mind has healed up since the ordeal.

“Mentally I am now as good as ever, but I do get a bit teary and frustrated at times," she told the newspaper. "Physically, I am very weak and fragile, but I am determined to recover."

Viagra's usage might not stop at COVID. In early December, the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic announced that Viagra has been identified "as a promising drug candidate to help prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease."

Researchers found that Viagra (sildenafil) users "were 69% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than non-sildenafil users after 6 years of follow-up. Specifically, sildenafil had a 55% reduced risk of the disease compared to losartan, 63% compared to metformin, 65% compared to diltiazem and 64% compared to glimepiride."

Ms. Almeida, the U.K. nurse, says she was joking with her respiratory nurse when he told her what saved her life.

"He told me it was the Viagra, I laughed and thought he was joking, but he said 'no, really, you've had a large dose of Viagra'," she told The Sun.

"It was my little Christmas miracle."
