Upcoming Horror Movie Is Pure Nightmare Fuel: TRAILER

"The Strangers: Chapter 1" looks like it might stop people from sleeping at night, and I'm here for it.

The film is a reboot after two previous "Strangers" films that came out in in 2008 and 2018. The 2008 film was an unexpected low budget hit that definitely played a role in similar movies like all the "Purge" films being able to find success. Now, director Renny Harlin is hoping to tap into the same success with a new trilogy.

"Chapter 1" will hit theaters May 17th, and it's expected "Chapter 2" and "Chapter 3" will follow at some point later in the year.

The plot is described as, "After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive in THE STRANGERS ― CHAPTER 1, the chilling first entry of this upcoming horror feature film series."

The plot description by itself is pretty unnerving, but I can promise you the trailer takes things to a different level. Give it a watch below, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

"The Strangers: Chapter 1" looks incredibly horrifying.

As I've said before, there are only two ways to properly do a horror film. It has to be incredibly serious or not very serious at all. Playing the middle of the road almost never works. The "Fear Street" trilogy is one of the few franchises that has ever successfully straddled the line.

It looks like we know exactly what side "The Strangers: Chapter 1" is going to pick. This movie looks absolutely terrifying. It's going to go all in on making sure viewers lose some sleep.

To paraphrase the great Dan Dakich, I ain't mad about it. As long as it's entertaining, we might as well give it a shot.

Also, is there a better setting for a horror movie than an isolated cabin in the woods? I don't think so. As someone who spent a lot of time in the woods as a kid, the setting is perfect for a gory slasher.

Let's hope "The Strangers: Chapter 1" lives up to the hype and our lofty expectations. We'll find out in May. Let me know at David.Hookstead@outkick.com what you think of the preview.
