Texas COVID Hospitalization Story Gets HUGE Update From CDC Data

The Texas Tribune amended one of their articles and reduced the number of COVID hospitalization cases among children that it had initially reported when CDC data showed that they had significantly over-reported the totals.

It first claimed that 5,800 Texas children had been hospitalized in the month of July alone. However that is the number of children hospitalized in the entire 17 months of COVID shutdowns. It turns out, there were just 783 children hospitalized in July, a reduction of nearly 5,000.

The correction, issued on Aug. 12, reads as follows:

"Correction, Aug. 12, 2021: An earlier version of this story overstated the number of children who have been hospitalized in Texas recently with COVID-19. The story said over 5,800 children who have been hospitalized in Texas recently with COVID-19. The story said over 5,800 children had been hospitalized during a seven-day period in August, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number correctly referred to children hospitalized by COVID-19 since the pandemic began. In actuality, 783 children were admitted to Texas hospitals with COVID-19 between July 1 and Aug. 9 of this year."

A similar correction was made to Florida's COVID numbers over the weekend after the CDC inflated their new case totals by nearly 10,000 cases.

According to the New York Post report, "The gap was significant, with the CDC initially claiming there were 28,317 new cases on Sunday, while the Florida DOH puts that number at 15,319. On Tuesday the CDC adjusted its number down to 19,584."

While the protection of children remains paramount as we emerge from the pandemic, giving inflated data misinforms people looking for information. It's a cheap trick by the Tribune to disparage Texas and Gov. Abbott's leadership regarding COVID.

Children and parents continue to take the brunt of the consequences, as OutKick's Clay Travis stated in his interview with Tucker Carlson on Wednesday.
