"The Madison" is a masterpiece.

I was very skeptical when the first preview and information was released for "The Madison" with Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell.

The reason why?

It was clear that Sheridan's new show was going to be a massive change of pace. No gunfights and intense and violent scenes.

It was described as a story about tragedy, loss and healing. Not exactly what fans have come to expect from the man responsible for "Wind River," "Sicario" and "Yellowstone."

Yet, I said I would withhold judgment until I actually got a chance to watch it all. After all, you shouldn't ever bet against Sheridan's success and creative vision.

Well, I'm happy to admit that my skepticism wasn't justified at all.

"The Madison" is amazing. I finally finished the first season, which is only six episodes, and it was incredible.

It is true that it is nothing like Sheridan's other work, other than largely taking place in Montana. It's an incredible story about how the death of a husband and father, played by Kurt Russell, and his brother in a plane crash sends shockwaves through a wealthy New York family.

As the family grieves, they start to learn about sides of their father they never fully understood or connected with.

The show draws a stark contrast between city life in New York and life in rural Montana, where things are simpler and authenticity actually exists.

To be clear, the show is sad. It's shockingly sad at moments. It drags viewers down into the emotional abyss, only to then lift them back up with hope and inspiration.

I guess you could say I got in touch with my softer side while watching it, and yes, I'm man enough to admit it!

Sheridan threw fans a massive change-up, and it worked. Hell, it didn't just work. It excelled, and proves that his skills as a creative visionary are truly unrivaled in our current era.

I entered "The Madison" not knowing what to expect and with fairly low expectations. I left thoroughly impressed and eager for season two. Well done, Sheridan. Well done. Are you watching? Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
