Sydney Sweeney's New Film Role Might Surprise Fans

Sydney Sweeney landed a new movie role, and it's a bit of a change of pace for the star actress.

Sweeney, who recently had her film "Immaculate" come out, is becoming one of the biggest stars in the world, and that now includes landing a role as legendary female boxer Christy Martin, according to Deadline.

Deadline wrote the following about Martin and the film:

"A naturally gifted fighter, her life transformed in 1989 when she met her manager, and later husband, Jim Martin. Breaking boundaries, she became the first woman to sign with iconic promoter Don King, and the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Her charisma, good looks and resilience in the ring won her an avid fanbase and propelled her to become welterweight champion. But behind the well-honed public persona, she tackled personal demons, toxic relationships, and a brutal attempt on her life."

Sydney Sweeney to star as boxer Christy Martin in upcoming movie.

It definitely doesn't sound like fans should expect to see Sweeney in a bikini in this film. Instead, it sounds like it will be all about Martin's life inside and outside the ring. The "Euphoria" star also apparently has a bit of a background in fighting.

"I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself," the Hollywood superstar told Deadline.

She further explained, "Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse. I’m passionate about the fighting world, Christy’s story shines a light on her incredible rise to the top while showing the struggles of fame behind the curtains. I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn’t allow it to defeat her. It’s powerful, and emotional."

It definitely sounds like Sweeney is going to dive headfirst into what sounds like a very emotional and dark film. It's not exactly what fans are used to seeing from her, but something tells me it could still put up box office numbers.

Sweeney is one of the most famous people in Hollywood, and has been on a very impressive run. Whether it's putting up huge numbers on social media or box office success with "Anyone but You," Sweeney can't stop winning.

To be clear, I've never watched "Euphoria," but it's my understanding it also has some dark elements. Not in a "True Detective" way, but in a very strange high school kind of way.

This movie sounds like it's going to have some *VERY* dark moments, and without spoiling anything, you can Google Christy Martin and the attempted murder she endured. The details are horrifying.

It's a safe bet that will be a central part of the movie. No matter what, it seems like Sweeney is continuing her climb to the top of Hollywood. Hit me with your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
