Salma Hayek Invades Milan For A Fashion Show, ARod Goes Reverse Sosa & A Gator Attacks Golfers

Please don't move to Perrysburg, Ohio, we're already full

I am sitting here on a quiet Saturday morning feeling horrible for those Millennials and Gen Xers who flooded the most desirable regions of America and now have to deal with big boy issues like how long it takes to get to the hottest new beer hall where other Gen Xers and Millennials sit at a long communal table to suck down beers with other Gen Xers and Millennials who also deal with absurd traffic.

(Yes, that was a very long sentence. Sorta like the long wait on the highway to drink the same beer that 800,000 other brewpubs sell.)

What a struggle it must be for those who live in the Raleigh-Durhams of the world. This morning, while finishing my final searches for Screencaps material, I came across this cry for help from Brian Powell. I don't know the guy. I just know that he's in a tough spot right now.

Folks, I have news for you: The magazines, TV shows and websites have been telling people for the last 50 years to move to Raleigh-Durham for the quality of life they're about to live. Unless your parents rolled into town in the 1960s and 1970s when Raleigh went from 93k residents in 1960 to 122k in 1970, you knew exactly what you were getting into.

In 2000, Raleigh had a population of 276,000. In 2010, the city had nearly doubled to 404,000 residents. That's a whopping 46% population growth over 10 years.

Now Brian's bitching about traffic. How's that quality of life now, Bri? It's not so easy to get to those massive brew halls now, is it?

Here's my concern when tweets like this pop up: Others are going to start thinking about how much time they're wasting in traffic, and they're going to start looking for the next great region of America to overpopulate.

Then, all it's going to take is one viral TikTok video showing off the traffic and amenities of this region and all hell is going to bust loose worse than it already has. The Millennials are going to see the grid system of Perrysburg where they can buy a shithole old home in the middle of town that sits on a half-acre wooded lot (in town, I swear the founding fathers of this area were geniuses) and these Millennials are going over-construct farmhouse chic houses on these beautiful lots.

I'm telling you, all it's going to take is ONE TikTok showing our beautiful downtown with its walkability, the last boathouse up the Maumee River, the multi-million dollar mansions along the river and little kids hopping up and down sidewalks in the middle of summer without a worry in the world.

And for the most part, the wokes haven't taken over our local government.

The Millennials and Gen Xers can have Raleigh. I'm good right here.

How is NYC these days? A report from a guy who stockpiles ammo

• Otis in Alabama writes:

A little late to the party on this, but went to NYC in late January.    My son's birthday is in mid Jan, so he is cursed with his birthday close enough to Christmas that they kind of blur together.

A few years ago we decided that he would get all his toys/games and other kid stuff for Christmas and we would do something as a family for his birthday.   I went to college in Long Island many moons ago, so we were talking about that last fall and he just decided he wanted to go to NYC for his 11th birthday.  So I jumped on Expedia and found a great package deal for 4 days with direct flights and a stay at the New Yorker Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

We got to the hotel on Thursday night around 7pm and immediately walked the 6 blocks or so to Times Square and walked around, ate hot dogs from a street vendor and had some cheesecake at Juniors.

Got back to the hotel at 1130 that night and never once felt unsafe.  I have travelled a great deal so I am always on alert, but still I was pretty comfortable all night long.   During our stay we did the whole tourist thing, Statue of Liberty, Canal Street/Chinatown, Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, and ate our yearly allotment of pizza and bagels in 4 days.

We all agree the trip was great but the most memorable thing we did was the Ground Zero Memorial and the One Trade Center.   The new building is AMAZING!   Anyone who goes to NYC should see it, it is very well done.

Over 4 days we walked 22 miles and rode the subway all over Manhattan, and did not see any roving gangs of migrants, no more homeless than you see in any city, and not one person on the street asked me for money.

I go to New Orleans a bit for work and I love New Orleans, but I can tell you that I felt exponentially safer walking around Manhattan at night than I ever do at night in the French Quarter.

I get the NYC boycott, but the reality is that neither political party gives a damn about me, so I refuse to live my life based on people I do not respect, because they don't respect me.  I am a conservative living in Alabama, and I think that the new IVF law is stupid, but I am not moving out of the state because of it.

I am just going to live my life doing things that make me happy, while at the same time stockpiling ammo.    Lastly, I cannot say enough how the family trip birthday gift is so worth it.

This year was a big trip, but sometimes we just go like an hour away and stay for a couple of days.   Every year we look at photos of the years before and relive the experience.   He has photos from the NYC trip that he will show his grandkids and how can that compare to any material gift?

Hell, we have all mostly forgotten what he got for Christmas.

Do you have a great sick day memory when your mom or dad took you out of school for something fun?

Millennial Jeff in Minnesota IS BACK:

Greetings screencaps community:

6 weeks ago was like Xmas to my family:

Michigan dominated the National Championship. (Reminder, Mich physically dominated Bama too. Milroy was sacked 6 times.)

Then Nick Saban,  or as my Dad and I jokingly refer to him, "Savior," retired!

Also, I had a white day, meaning that did not have any surgeries scheduled, hospital rounding responsibilities, or clinic; so I took my oldest out of school and we went skiing.

The main reason I’m actually writing is to pose a fun question.

What are your best "sick day’’ memories? You know, when your Mom or Dad let you miss school to create a fun memory.

I’m envisioning World Series games, opening day games, days on the water, fishing trips, hunting trips, visiting amusement parks, family vacations etc… DISCUSS

Student loan forgiveness

• Homebrew Bill writes:

You'll probably get a lot of responses similar to this. Biden's student loan forgiveness is nothing but an illegal sham to buy votes. Other than the $hitshow we have at the border, it's a huge thumbs down vote for this joke of an administration. When our daughter was born, my wife and I opened up a 529 plan and started contributing to it. We upped our monthly contribution about a year ago and there's a decent amount of money in it now. She'll hopefully get some scholarships for academic reasons, and as long as I'm still employed by UNL she'll get some dependent benefits as well. It's called planning ahead, and it's part of being an adult. Take responsibility for your actions. Don't take out a loan for a worthless degree. As Judge Smails said in Caddyshack, "the world needs ditch diggers too."

• Jim M. says:

Joe:  Big P was asking about the legality of student loan debt cancellation.  Two comments, the first  from Milton Friedman, Nobel laureate economist from the University of Chicago, and I am paraphrasing here:

"All debts get paid, either by the debtor or the creditor."

The second, from browsing the web:

"If your degree isn’t worth enough that you’re willing to pay for it, why (The hell) should your neighbor pay for it."

Words matter, and It is unfortunate that our mainstream media is allowing incorrect terminology.  Joe Biden cannot cancel debt, nor can he cannot forgive debt.  He can only transfer debt, and that’s what he is attempting.  If his initiative were being reported correctly,  it would be a political liability; not an asset.  He is simply trying to buy votes from a specific demographic.  Sadly, this story has been repeated enough that many Americans are led to believe that he can actually cancel or forgive debt.

BTW, we raised our kids in the Toledo area;…lived there for seventeen years out in Sylvania from 1987 to 2004.  We're in Florida now, but many great memories.  Go Rockets, and keep up the good work!

Kinsey:

Sylvania, OH is another place where the Xers and Millennials in these overpopulated metro areas will infiltrate once they hear about the quality of life.

Hard workers start early in the morning

• Andy in Texas writes:

Reading [Friday] Screencaps article that spoke of Matt Morgan and his work ethic, but more about roofers and tilers and people who work with their hands. To me, a work ethic is not learned, its innate. People with a drive to do better and to be better get up early because there are things to do and get done before the day ends.

My daughter’s first job was with a caterer who ran food booths at fairs and festivals. He catered parties and had a falafel restaurant. She started with him at the age of late 14 helping at the counter etc etc. (Don’t tell OSHA!) She worked all 3 venues for the summer and made more money than all her friends did. I counseled her to never let them know just how much, until she did let it slip. Learned a lesson there. She is now in her late 30’s married with 2 kids. Her resume reads Banfield Pet Hospital, Columbia Sportswear, Regence Health, and now Waste Management. All corp HR positions, head hunted all the way.

Quick ending here. People would come to me to help their kids get summer jobs. My response was always "I will get them an interview. They have to get their own jobs!". The successful kids make their own effort! If you want to help your kids succeed give them a work ethic! Caddy, mow lawns, earn their own money.

Sorry to be so long winded. I am very proud of my daughter and how she has turned out.

• Anonymous in Illinois writes:

My daughter started doing dishes in our small town bar and grill at the age of 15.  The place she worked at shut down for a few months when JB Pritzker decided who could make a living and who couldn’t.   When they opened back up and needed another server, the owner asked the mayor and chief of police if my 16 year old daughter could serve.  They gave both her the green light.

Now this bar and grill doesn’t have a bartender.  The server literally makes their own drinks for the customers.  She learned a great skill at a young age.

The locals fell in love with my daughter.  She worked her ass off and saved enough money in 2 years to pay for 2 years of college.  This along with playing 2 sports in high school and finishing with over a 4.0 GPA.  She is a freshman in college and came back to work the month she was off.  Saved enough at Christmas for this semesters spending money.  There is hope for the future of this great country!

Yeah, it's been a few...  thanks to a busy work schedule, commie workplace firewalls, and trying to clear out the Michigan basement of my 101 yr old house so the marxists at the City of Toledo can install a remote operated water meter for them to be able to control my water usage at the push of a button so as to to keep them from SHUTTING OFF MY WATER IF I DON'T COMPLY, i haven't had much ScreenCap time.  I'll take the admonishment with Honor.

The best retirement gifts you can get your parents

• Rod in Freeport, IL writes:

A little late to the party, but 8 years ago, my siblings and I decided to gift our parents a family vacation every year.  We live all over, so getting together is difficult.  We go in late summer, picking an AirBnB/VRBO in a different city each year, taking 4 days to hang out.  My parents get all of the kids and grandkids together for an extended time with no stress, unlike during holiday seasons.   We visit local sites, cook together, bet on the NASCAR race, and even do some family competitions.  It's turned into a weekend we all look forward to and my parents get memories they wouldn't have had otherwise.   Greatest gift we have ever given to those that gave so much to us.

The gift of time

• Brent P. really took my theory on giving the gift of time to heart this week

After I sent my email Wednesday, I sent an appointment invite to my son. I Had breakfast this morning with him. It was a great hour of catching up. We are going to meet every Friday schedules permitting.

The Hottest TNML Shirt of the Year IS BACK

• E Graham writes:

Just sent my mower, 42" Hustler Raptor Limited, off to get serviced up and ready for mowing season. I’ve attached a photo with my gas powered blower to prove I’m worthy to join the legion of TNML’ers. I also have a striper from Big League Lawns that attaches to the back and makes for an impressive display in the spring and early summer when our lawns are green and lush. By late July it gets a little tougher because it’s 110 degrees and pretty dry!

But I digress, it’s going to be 75 degrees in Kansas this week and we’ll be mowing before you know it. I’m fully onboard with the TNML and would love to have a sticker, t-shirt, or any or other fabulous items you may have. Let me know how I can obtain these symbols of American dominance!

Thanks for the great work you’re doing, keep it up!

Kinsey:

There's the first shirt of the year. The full TNML Collection® will drop in March. I spent multiple days this week finalizing the details with T-shirt Manager Olivia G. Big news: There will be a TNML koozie available in 2024.

As for stickers, I have to get my personalized TNML ink stamp before I'm going to restart the sticker mailing process. Everyone stay calm.

What a Saturday morning! The emails have been tremendous. The participation is top-notch. After a couple of slow weeks, we're back into a groove. The OutKick redesign had me in the dumps, but now my energy is back. I'm not just going through the motions.

Plus, I have some upcoming trips and experiences that should be great content for Screencaps. This week I booked one flight and hotel rooms. Things are coming along. More on that later.
