Rock Legend Eric Clapton Releases Anti-Vax Song
It's safe to say that rock legend Eric Clapton's upcoming tour through the South won't include any "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" Pat Benatar covers. Clapton, 76, has just released a new track and music video entitled "This Has Gotta Stop," a not-so-subtle jab directed at those pushing for vaccines and lockdowns.
The 18-time Grammy Award winner wastes little time sharing his thoughts in his latest single: "This has gotta stop/ Enough is enough/ I can’t take this BS any longer."
If that opening verse doesn't send a strong enough message, the second verse leaves little doubt as to where Clapton stands: "It’s gone far enough/ If you wanna claim my soul/ You’ll have to come and break down this door."
This isn't the first time Clapton's been vocal about COVD-19 vaccinations and government mandated lockdowns, it's just the latest. At the height of last year's pandemic, Clapton and Van Morrison collaborated on the song "Stand and Deliver," an anti-lockdown track directed at the U.K. government. Earlier this summer, Clapton said that he would not perform at any concert venues requiring proof of vaccination for attendees.
A 32-second clip of "This Has Gotta Stop" posted to Clapton's Twitter account has been viewed close to 2 million times in just under three days.
Fans of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will have their first chance to hear Clapton's anti-vax song in mid-September, when he plays three Texas-based shows. Don't be surprised if he treats the crowd to an updated version of one of his biggest hits: Liberal Tears In Heaven.
