"Paradise" viewers were hit with a massive shock in the latest episode.
The hit Hulu series about an apocalyptic event wiping out the Earth returned for the start of season two last week.
Hype for the new season has been huge. It's not hard to understand why. Season one was outstanding, and fans were left craving more answers as the mystery deepened.
Three episodes were released to start the season. Episode four hit Hulu on Monday, and it gave fans a truly heartbreaking scene.

"Paradise" gives viewers brutal death scene.
Shailene Woodley joined the cast of "Paradise" as Annie – a woman who hides out at Elvis' Graceland during the world-changing weather event. She eventually finds herself unexpectedly pregnant after meeting a group of random men bound for the bunker in Colorado.
Woodley is a significant star. The belief was when she joined the cast that she'd be in the show for the long haul. Big name talents don't generally just pop in for a few episodes, especially when their storyline becomes integral.
Buckle up because fans were hit with a brutal curveball.
Annie died while giving birth to her baby, and the moment was gut-wrenching to watch unfold. I'm not the kind of guy who gets all up in my feelings over entertainment, but even I have to admit that it was an incredibly sad moment.

I also wasn't the only person surprised by the twist. Reddit was on fire with reactions, and many were absolutely blown away:
- Man that is NOT what I wanted to happen, I am devastated. I so badly wanted her & that baby to make it back to Link. I wanted her to get her back back 😫💔💔
- Yeah I was really sad that they didn’t have Annie bring her daughter to meet Link and reunite. Shailene Woodley was outstanding in the time she had on screen, her character was a great addition. Hopefully we get more flashbacks scenes with Annie like Billy and Cal
- I just finished the episode. Talk about a devastating loss. 😭💔 Every Mom’s worst nightmare. Annie was my favorite new character. Last season it was Billy. Ughhh.
- I was so looking forward to them being reunited. I ugly cried.
- My husband and I just watched it and we are expecting our first little one in 9 weeks. Both of us could not stop crying the whole episode. So incredibly heartbreaking.
- I feel the same devastation. I was already picturing her and the baby reuniting with Link and how emotional that would be and now I’m heartbroken and really disappointed.
- I cried so hard my cat came to see about me.
- I mean what did I expect of the man that gave us this is us 😭
- I wasn't sure what to expect this episode. I honestly thought Annie was gonna be like holding a gun to Xavier's head the entire time and he was gonna try to ditch her. But there was a lot of nuance to their relationship, and I was definitely not expecting her to die idk. I really loved the nuance in the characters, it made that scene hit so much harder. Whew I was crying
- That was Shailene Woodley’s best performance. Ever. I was trying to fold laundry and watch TV in peace and ended up sobbing in my living room instead. Good GOD.
- I have literally just finished and I can’t stop crying. I loved her and somehow hoped she’d find happiness with Link.
