Paige Spiranac Takes On Oakmont In A Bucket, SEC Schools By Distance To Waffle House & Protest Memes

How do you know summer is near?

I'll go first:

  1. I woke up just before 6 and the birds were going nuts and it was light enough outside to not hit the lights.
  2. I drive around at 8:30 and it's not dark.
  3. The local TV stations start running ads from the pool stores trying to get people to buy above-ground pools.
  4. The first time I walk into the pool store and the chlorine smell hits me which happened last night.
  5. The kids start having those end-of-year school events every single day. Yesterday, I got the email from the PE teacher saying he'll need volunteers to run Field Day. That has been my parenting duty lately. I'll take on that one again here in a couple of weeks. Today was Donuts with a Loved One. I'd be unemployed if I hit up all the events these schools throw.
  6. My brain refuses to say no to outdoor work after a full day of sitting in front of a computer even though I know the outdoor work is going to hurt. Over the weekend, I moved several hundred pounds of new rocks that Mrs. Screencaps picked out. Yes, she has a rock problem. Typically, it's the husband who has a rock problem. She's out of control. It's time for an intervention.
  7. That first semi-legitimate night on the patio with a beer. Is the patio completely dialed in? Not at all, but that first beer just hits different. It signals those long summer nights are near.
  8. The first flowers go in the ground. That has not happened yet.

What else?

The McAfee popup has been murdered!

– Barry in Kingston Springs, TN is happy:

It was great to go through the whole Screencaps material this morning without a McAfee pop up.

Kinsey:

Barry, let me tell you how happy I am to open your email and see that message. Simple, to the point, relieved. That's the positive energy I want to see more of as we get closer to summer.

Where do you guys buy your short sleeve button downs and other shirts for Summer? Help out this Millennial

– Anoymous Millennial in Memphis, who is married with two kids and works at a place where they'd freak out if he popped up on OutKick, writes:

1. I am employed by a worldwide, large manufacturer of ICE engine components so I appreciate the "take my ICE engine from my cold, dead hands" attitude of Screencaps nation.  I will drive a V-8 pickup as long as I can grip a steering wheel.  I am not against electric cars, lawn mowers (own an electric blower and trimmer), but I am against states/cities or governments telling people what they can & cannot buy for an unproven "green" initiative.  Keep up the good fight!!  This goes against everything I believe in and stand for, which is why I love starting my day with Screencaps.  Sets the mood for the day.

2. Love seeing college students stand against these campus terrorists.  If stupid things like this happened in the 2005-2009 time frame, I know my group of fraternity brothers would have defended our campus and American flag like the kids in North Carolina.  God Bless America.

3. Finally, the main reason I wrote in.  Where does Screencaps nation buy their summer short sleeve button downs, henleys, polos(lightweight - I sweat terribly)?  I work from home so my wardrobe is mostly athleisure but I need nicer shirts to wear out on dates with my wife, church, etc.   90% of my clothes come from Costco, but their short sleeve shirt game is lacking.  Let's face it there are plenty short sleeve button downs for the old guy >60 and slim/tight shirts for skinny guys.  But what about the average-sized dude with a dad bod/belly.

Need something I can wear with jeans or khaki shorts.  Like everything else on Amazon, most of the options are from brands I've never heard of and reviews vary wildly.  I am willing to spend the $ on something that will last but again, I don't want an old man shirt or an XL that fits like a medium.  I need some help, maybe even from the women readers who purchase their husband's shirts.

Kinsey:

  1. It's great to have new email blood around here, especially from the Millennials who are starting to read Screencaps/OutKick in droves. It's wild to think I started my Internet career when some of you older Millennials were fresh out of high school.
  2. I'm not the right guy to answer this question because I tend to acquire summer wear from these places: TNML, Costco, gear that readers send. In the last 30 days, I've acquired four polos from TNML and readers. I was just telling Mrs. Screencaps that I might not have to buy golf shirts for a decade based on all the stuff that's been showing up.
  3. I'll throw this on the Facebook page. Someone should be able to help you over there.

How would you punish the morons who dumped out the garbage cans into the ocean?

– Harvey D. wants to share a few opinions:

Hey Joe,

1. The douche nozzles dumping the garbage in the ocean.(the kids on the boat, although the Tybee Island peeps need the same punishment) I am thinking a good old fashioned keel hauling fits the crime. Then enough community service hours, enough to make sure they digging every cigarette butt and Coney Island Whitefish out of some Free State beach sand, by hand. No implements. No driving the beach rake in an A/C cab. Hot and sweaty with a t shirt that says," yeah I am that guy from the boat" about 16 to 18 hrs a day should do.

 2. Travel ball can suck it.

It's not just baseball. It's all the damn sports! It's not about the kids. Follow the money! If it were, they all would be in rec ball.  The folks who can't be seen as poor who can't hang with the haves. Get Billy or Suzy in a travel league, rack that crap up on a CC and let her rip! We look bougie(?). Keeping up with the Jones's when you are eating Ramen noodles makes no damn sense! Insert P.T. Barnum quote here. IYKYK.

3. Cheap vacations

State parks. Some of the damn things around here are damn resort level. Hell  even the Grand Lake has a lodge now. Hocking Hills, Shawnee State.... bounce around the Buckeye and take the road less traveled. Lots of beautiful scenery here in the Buckeye! #notsponsored

4. No-fly list

I am on several of my buddies' wives No Fly Lists.  Everything is good until... "Who is going?" .....Harvey.

Then the texts start flying.

" something came up, sorry."

" I forgot about....:

" she said we have plans"

I don't take offense. I wear it like a badge of Honor. I feel sorry for them. Yes, arranging bail at 3 a.m. is a pain, but go have some fun!

Who else in the Caps Community is on a No-Fly list? And Why?

5. Springboro, OH checking in.

One look at the restaurants tells you why the road has that name.

ARBY'S, Mc Donald's, Applebee's, and the Hooey(Waffle House).

From the garage watching the neighbor launch Roman Candles at the geese!

How to care for your Trex decking while protecting against grease from your grill

- Mike B. writes:

Sounds like Stephen has the same set-up as me. I don’t have anything on my Trex to protect against grease from the grills. Purchase this stuff just in case anything gets onto the decking. It will remove anything!

Put in a new deck myself last year, I found rubber mats at Tractor Supply for underneath both my grill and flat top. Heavy duty, don’t blow away in the wind and handle grease well…

It Just Means More®

Everyone relax. Those tents weren't purchased by Hamassholes. It's an encampment joke tweet. Notice the cornhole boards. The lib libs aren't setting up cornhole at their protests.

Yes, Big Boy still exists

- Dawgs fan Sam L. who has been all over the world this year, reports, again, from Marquette, MI:

I did not know these suckers still exist.

Tipping is out of control

- Steve B. in Grand Junction, CO writes:

Swiping my card to pay for the dryer repairman, after my 3-hour attempt to fix it myself via YouTube videos failed.

So what's more insulting, the fact I have to drop nearly $400 to repair a 3 year-old dryer, or the fact that I'm asked to tip afterwards?

Yeah, I know some of this is already programmed into the credit card software, but talk about rubbing salt into the wound.

P.S.

That IG photo of Hannah C. Palmer today. Wow! Took my breath away!  $5.29 for a gallon of gas?

Movies to put on your radar

- Mike T. in Idaho has thoughts:

Greetings from cold Idaho,

TGC and I enjoy watching movies in the theaters because of the experience! Big picture, big sound, but unfortunately with the Woke Hollywood culture it’s been hard to find great movies. Netflix has been kicking ass.

We did see the latest Mission Impossible and Maverick Top Gun last year, both excellent. However, in the last several weeks we’ve see a couple of excellent movies!

Civil War, fantastic movie and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Both outstanding and worth the time and money ( especially on cheapskate Tuesday).

Cheap summer vacations that should be on your radar in 2024

1st night in Galena Il.  Galena is an ecletic town.  Not much for the kids and you to do but Mrs. Screen caps would love the little shops.  You are only staying here to appease the Mrs and need a place to stay after a 6 hr drive from Ohio.  You could stop in Freeport Illinois on the way to see the little Wrigley Field.  https://www.littlecubsfield.com/

2nd stop Field of Dreams movie site.  Get there before it’s all travel ball tournaments all the time… https://www.fieldofdreamsmoviesite.com/

3rd stop House on the Rock .  You don’t stop for the house, you stop for the crazy collection of stuff.  Kids will love it.  https://www.thehouseontherock.com/

4th stop Rookies!  The bar with the wiffle ball field is back open.  You need to check that the field isn’t rented the day you stop. https://www.rookiesfood.com/

5th stop The Shoe Box.  Just 2 miles east of Rookies.  You can get the kids school shoes.  https://www.theshoebox.com/

6th stop Wisconsin Dells.  Water Park Capital of the world.  Yes it will be expensive but kids will love it.  Several places to choose from.  (I can help you decide depending on the length of stay.)   The Dells has all the same tourist things as the Gatlinburg area but it isn’t as overwhelming and has several WaterParks……

7th stop New Glarus Brewing.   A little out of your way on the way home but worth it for the Two Women Beer.  (or Spotted Cow)

Northwest Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin is part of the Driftless Zone.  The glaziers didn’t level this area out.  It’s a beautiful area with rolling hills.

Vacation 2:

St. Louis

Catch a game, see the Arch, City Museum (It’s just a massive jungle gym), "Free Zoo" etc….

#####################

That's it for this first Thursday in May. The sun is out again. It's supposed to be a nice day to run a baseball practice. Go make it a good one.

And don't forget to mow. I'll hopefully have some fun news on the TNML front later today.
