Matthew McConaughey Stars In Powerful Zach Bryan Music Video

Zach Bryan teamed up with Matthew McConaughey for an awesome music video.

The former "True Detective" star was the focal point of the music video for Bryan's hit song "Nine Ball," and it's a hell of a production.

The song, while upbeat, tells a pretty sad and depressing story. It focuses on the relationship between a young man and his gambling-addicted father who loves playing pool. If that's not a downer, then I don't know what is.

While the theme of the song isn't positive, McConaughey brought his A-game and the video also featured Tye Sheridan and Scott Shephard.

Matthew McConaughey stars in music video for "Nine Ball" from country singer Zach Bryan.

First off, it's incredible that Zach Bryan was able to lock down Matthew McConaughey for a music video. Generally speaking, major movie stars don't appear in music videos.

Does it happen? Yes, but it's very rare, and there's usually an pre-existing relationship between talent when it does. That makes me wonder if McConaughey is a huge fan of Bryan's work. Just randomly appearing in a country music video doesn't make a ton of sense when you're a star of his caliber.

Having said that, this is a hell of a music video about a very sad subject. There's nothing uplifting or inspiring about people who have rough relationships with their parents.

Fortunately, I had great parents who I am very close with. I'm not sure that would be the case if one of them was a massive gambling addict as portrayed in "Nine Ball."

That would be a major problem, and that's the theme and tone of the music video from Zach Bryan. McConaughey absolutely nailed the depressing mood with flashes of positivity.

Finally, Sheridan and McConaughey have worked together before. They both starred in the 2012 movie "Mud." It flew a bit under the radar because of McConaughey's major commercial hits around the same time, but it's a hell of a movie. It's unbelievably dark but also uplifting at times. I 100% recommend it if you've never seen it before.

As for Zach Bryan, let's hope he keeps pumping out hits. The man is one of the fastest rising music stars in America. Let me know what you think of the music video at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
