Jeopardy To Unveil Spin-Off Series - But Will You Watch?

Get ready for more Jeopardy in your life, game show fans as the iconic trivia program will soon launch a spin-off series.

Pop Culture Jeopardy! will exclusively debut on Amazon Prime Video later this year and will be the game show's first major streaming service series. However, this version will have different rules - the main one being that three teams of three (totaling 9 players) will compete against each other rather than just three individuals.

MORE JEOPARDY FOR GAME SHOW FANS

The new spin-off series will feature the show's iconic question-and-answer format, however, all topics will be focused on music, film, TV, stage and sports. So if you were hoping to tune in and impress your wife with your ancient Mesopotomia or Newton's physics knowledge, this isn't the show for you. Jeopardy's current executive producer Michael Davies will also spearhead the new show as well. Davies was responsible for the rise of ABC's Who Wants to be A Millionaire? throughout the 2000's.

"With Michael Davies at the helm, Pop Culture Jeopardy! is going to be a nail biter for game show enthusiasts who can expect to see teams competing at the highest level of Jeopardy! combined with a fresh twist of pop culture Olympics for the mind…it’s going to be a must-watch for long-time viewers and new fans alike," Sony Pictures Television's president of game shows Suzanne Prete told Variety.

Launching a Jeopardy spin-off series that's focused on pop culture and trending topics makes perfect sense for both Amazon and Sony Pictures standpoint. Will the typical audience be angered by it? Absolutely, but neither entity will care about that because they are looking at the larger picture. Younger generations are not watching network television, which is only squeezing out the available Jeopardy audience as they continue to get older. By moving it to Amazon, the show's producers are able to give it almost a rebirth to an entire new fan base.
