Former Navy SEAL Roasts Humiliating Deleted Navy Photo

Jeff Nichols wasn't overly impressed by a recently deleted Navy photo, and he had a story of his own to share.

The Navy has been getting ruthlessly dragged and roasted into oblivion after it posted on its official social media channels a photo of a guy firing a rifle……with the optic on backwards.

Not only was the optic on the backwards, but appeared like the lens covers might have been on, the butt of the rifle was riding up his shoulder and he had his arm out like it was a chicken wing. It was a humiliating photo that was rightfully torn to shreds.

Former Navy SEAL Jeff Nichols reacts to deleted Navy photo.

Nichols, a former member of the regular SEAL Teams and the Navy's Tier One element (DEVGRU/SEAL Team 6), has a lot of experience when it comes to using a rifle, and couldn't believe what he saw. However, he also shared a wild story about how his master chief on SEAL Team 5 did pretty much the exact same thing.

"The master chief had his helmet on backwards and he had his optics on backwards and the flashlight and stuff. So, like, he was trying to like walk in the middle of the night with his helmet on backwards, with his optics on backwards and that was my master chief at SEAL Team 5. So, we laugh at it, but it ain't funny, right. It's seriously not funny because that's what's persisting and that's why I left that place because the people that are in charge are wearing their helmets on backwards on a final training exercise," Nichols explained when reacting to the now-infamous deleted photo.

Nichols also made it clear that it was a totally different ballgame once he got to DEVGRU/SEAL Team 6, where the leadership was significantly better and mistakes like backwards optics never happened.

You can watch him break down his full thoughts below.

Just an incredible story from Nichols, and while he says it shouldn't be funny, I think we can all agree the visual of a military leader running around with his helmet on backwards and a rifle without proper optics is kind of funny.

Most people might not know it, but there is a huge difference between operators on the ground and military leadership. The enlisted guys kicking in doors spend their time training and shooting. Guys in leadership positions oftentimes are focused on administrative issues, which is how you end up with apparently multiple ones using weapons with backwards optics.

The same doesn't apply to the Tier One level, which is what Nichols is talking about when he's referring to the "command" he ended up at. Guys who are at the Tier One level - leadership or operators - are the real deal. You don't end up in one of America's SMUs unless you can get the job done, and using a weapon with a backwards optic would never happen.
