HBO Drops Second Trailer for Sopranos’ Prequel ‘The Many Saints of Newark’

On Wednesday, HBO released the second trailer for The Many Saints of Newark, the upcoming Sopranos' prequel film.

Got that? Tony Soprano got kicked out of school. The school accused him of something he didn't do. I believe him.

The second trailer suggests that Ray Liotta will play a featured role in the film. HBO has not said the name of Liotta's character, thus we suspect it's someone not involved in the original series.

The film centers around a young Tony Soprano, portrayed by the late James Gandolfini's son, Michael. Michael Gandolfini co-stars next to Alessandro Nivola, who plays Dickie Moltisanti, Christopher's father.

Joining Tony in his earlier days are younger versions of Johnny Soprano, Junior Soprano, Silvio Dante, Livia Soprano, Paulie Gualtieri, and Artie Bucco. I'm holding out hope for Johnny Sack.

The film is set in 1967, with a script written by Sopranos' creator David Chase.

HBO released the following synopsis this summer:

"Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark's history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family's hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities — and whose influence over his impressionable nephew will help make the teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we'll later come to know: Tony Soprano."

The Many Saints of Newark debuts in theaters and on HBO Max on October 1.
