Genny Shawcross Caps Off A Huge Content Week In The Maldives, Pete Rose Gets A Topps Card & Best Backyard Ever

Technically, I could end this edition of Saturday Screencaps after this video because it might be the most perfect Screencaps video I've ever seen

It's Saturday. It's Derby Saturday and I have a 12U practice to run in just about an hour, so let's keep this one short and sweet.

I want to start with this video because it encapsulates Derby day and the patio season that is upon all of us or damn near all of us dads who do our best work when the calendar hits May and suddenly it's big patio event after big patio event.

Today it's the Derby. In three weeks, it's the Indy 500 AND the Coca-Cola 600. There are those graduation events. There are those post-round 19th hole nights with the boys.

I want you to soak it all in this year. I want you to slow down and actually hear "Reelin’ In the Years" through those patio speakers.

Summer starts today in Louisville. Enjoy yourself.

In case you have no idea how to bet today's Derby, here's some advice (not telling you to use it, but here it is)

I like how Dakich's guy gives out advice on how to bet $100 on the Derby. Too many times, we get to Derby weekend and suddenly some tout is screaming to take the 7.

Dan's guy is giving people a chance to have a few bets on the table to make things interesting.

Good luck to those who are dabbling later today.

Once again, Perrysburg didn't make a ‘No. 1 Best City To Move To" list and I’m thankful

Congrats to those of you who made the list as your city continues to become crazy huge and full of traffic. I'll sit here in this perfect little city and live my life. Trust me, you'd hate in-town houses sitting on half-acre lots.

DO NOT MOVE HERE…unless you want to get your kid on my 12U house ball team and your son has a rifle left arm.

Pay more, get more battery range…why do I feel like cars will be like Netflix subscriptions down the road where you don't actually own the car because you have to pay a monthly subscription to get the extended battery life?

I'm going to stick with my paid-in-cash Toyota Camry that doesn't require a monthly subscription to operate.

Call me old-fashioned, I guess.

Thoughts while drinking a beer with a doodle on a Friday night: The future death of school sports

- Chris B. in Johnson City, TN shares:

I’m drinking a beer with the doodle because I mowed last night. I thought you’d appreciate this data point. My daughter is a cheerleader for rec league football and basketball. Next year she’ll try out for middle school cheerleading.

My wife was a cheerleader. She’s into it but not over the top. A couple of weeks ago, our middle school had cheer tryouts. My wife was curious about who made the squad.

When she checked the list she was surprised to see one girl missing. I think she thought our daughter would be at that girl’s level in a year. I could tell that it worried her a little. Fast forward to last night. My wife was at gymnastics practice and talking to another cheer mom.

She brought up the girl who wasn’t on the list for the middle school squad. The other mom then informed her that the little girl had made the squad. She turned it down to cheer for a private, competitive cheer/gymnastics team. My wife was relieved, but I automatically thought of your prediction about high school baseball.

PS. Here are some Tennessee taillights-zip ties are duct tape’s more sophisticated brother

Signs that summer is near

- Jim C. from Lander, Wyoming in the summer and Apache Junction, AZ in the winter writes:

My son-in-law posted this photo this morning on his way from Lander, Wyoming to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Kinsey:

It's going to be 64 and sunny today in Lander. Summer is here (or near!). Let's get out there this weekend and embrace it. Suck it in. Deep breaths. Get into something that puts a smile on your face.

I'm off to the baseball field, and then I need to cut some trim boards. I haven't sat still on a weekend since March and I don't plan to stop this month.

It's time to get after it.
