First ‘Alien: Romulus' Teaser Trailer Shows Off Possible Contender For Horror Flick Of The Year

A gory and terrifying new "Alien" movie is coming to theaters this year.

And unlike the dull, Jussie Smollett-starring "Alien: Covenant" from 2017, this one looks f***ing killer!

On Wednesday, audiences got their first teaser trailer for the new "Alien: Romulus" horror flick, scheduled to release on August 16.

Just from a minute-long clip, fans of the series witnessed a blend of homage and innovation for this next installment of the franchise by prolific horror director Fede Alvarez.

Watching a group of facehuggers chase a human around and hearing the classic Xenomorph let off a blood-curdling shriek as characters scream in agony over a painful demise seems like a nail-biting experience in theaters.

The franchise looks like it's back with a vengeance.

With this first teaser alone, there's little doubt this movie will be a hit.

WATCH:

According to all the rumors surrounding this project, "Alien: Romulus" is a fantastic watch.

This seventh flick in the "Alien" franchise aims to bring back the horror elements of the original, with a big bump in gore and suspense (akin to the "Alien" video games) from the looks of the trailer.

Here are three reasons why "Alien: Romulus" will be this year's must-see horror movie:

1. Fede Alvarez is a modern-day master of the genre, having directed the exceptional "Evil Dead" remake in 2013 and 2016's nerving "Don't Breathe," an original horror concept by Alvarez, which made 16 times its production budget at the end of its box office run.

This guy doesn't play around in the genre. As the cherry on top, Alvarez reportedly received the blessing of legendary directors Ridley Scott ("Alien," "Alien: Covenant") and James Cameron ("Aliens") to spearhead this revival of the franchise. Events from "Alien: Romulus" have been placed between the chronology of Ridley's first film and Cameron's action-packed sequel.

2. Initially slated to release on streaming service Hulu, the higher-ups at 20th Century / Walt Disney Studios changed their mind — opting for a theatrical release — after watching the film.

If the producers want to put more money into the project's release, it's gotta be good.

3. Fede Alvarez promised to up the horror, and cast member Isabel Merced attested to filming one scene so gruesome that the crew had to look away.

If that's not awesome, I don't know what *facehugger attacks OutKick writer* …
