Legendary 'Lost' Actress Announces Shocking Retirement

Evangeline Lilly is stepping away from Hollywood.

The star actress shot to fame as Kate Austin on the legendary series "Lost" and followed that up with several major movie roles.

However, she's decided the time has come for her to end her acting career, ride off into the sunset and find new adventures away from Hollywood.

Evangeline Lilly steps away from acting.

Yes, the woman famous for playing the fugitive Kate Austen appears to have read her final lines from a script.

Lilly recently wrote the following, in part, on Instagram while sharing an old video of herself from the set of "Lost" predicting her retirement years ago:

"I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment. I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I AM READY...and I AM HAPPY."

It really does feel like a part of my childhood died with this announcement. Is that dramatic? Sure, but let's call a spade a spade. Lilly was epic back in the day on the legendary ABC show.

She was one of the best parts of the show for all six seasons. Kate Austen was a fugitive on the run, and as the audience learned her story, we couldn't help but fall in love with her.

That's in large part due to Lilly's incredible performance.

She later found more success in two "Hobbit" films and multiple "Ant-Man" films and "Avengers: Endgame." Yet, instead of continuing to cash in as a star, Lilly is walking away from acting at the age of 44, and she couldn't seem to be happier, judging from her announcement.

Most people in the entertainment industry will do anything to stick around. Lilly is leaving it all behind, despite the fact she could continue to stack cash.

Lilly has two young kids, and I have no doubt is super excited to spend more time with them now that she's done acting.

It's truly the end of an era, and what an epic run she had. As a "Lost" mega-fan, thanks for the memories and best of luck on the next chapter. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
