Elon Musk Shares Alleged Leak Disney Document Showing Absurd Diversity Standards

Elon Musk tweeted a fascinating document that allegedly shows insane Disney diversity standards.

Musk shared the document late Tuesday afternoon claiming he received it from an "anonymous source" that showed "mandatory, institutionalized racism and sexism" within the company.

The document covers "on screen representation," "creative leadership," "below-the-line" and "industry access & career development." The most troubling part of the document by far are the standards for what the audience is allowed to see.

The "on screen representation" standards require three of five of the following:

  • 50% of regular and recurring written characters come from underrepresented groups.
  • 50% or more of regular and recurring actors come from underrepresented groups.
  • Meaningful inclusion of underrepresented groups in secondary roles.
  • Meaningful integration of underrepresented groups in overall themes and narratives of the premise.
  • Every episode must have "ongoing meaningful integration of underrepresented groups."

Absolutely unhinged standards. You can see the full document below, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Elon Musk shares alleged Disney diversity document.

When it comes to what happens behind the camera, the standard should be simple. Get the best people available and get after it. That shouldn't even need to be said, but the fact there are on-camera standards is absolutely crazy.

Let's stop and do a brain exercise real quickly. "Band of Brothers" - an HBO production - is the greatest war series ever made. The show almost exclusively takes place in Europe as American forces battle the German military - two groups made up almost entirely of white men.

By Disney's standards, such a story couldn't ever be told because there's too many white people and not enough minorities. That leaves the producers two options. Scrap such a story or inject fake elements to please diversity censors.

We're probably a couple of years away from Disney making a D-Day series where the opening waves on Omaha Beach were all pregnant single mothers.

Let's use another real life example that is directly tied to Disney:

The movie "Miracle."

The hit film about the 1980 Olympics has exclusively white actors in all important roles. Why? Because everyone on the American and Soviet rosters and staff were all white. Every single one of them. There were no black or Latino players on either team. There damn sure weren't any women playing.

By Disney's own standards, the racial makeup of the teams in the movie would have to be altered to where half were minorities or the film couldn't be made.

Does that make sense? Is that right or fair? The answer is no and we all know it.

Casts for movies should represent what the script needs, and nothing should be tweaked when it comes to history. Injecting false elements to a historical story is downright insulting to the real people involved. Many people might not have the courage to say it, but I will. Disney should be ashamed if the standards are what Musk tweeted. Downright embarrassing. Let me know if you agree at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
