Bob C. would like to see your local high school football stadiums

I've been holding this one back until I had a quiet day where it would get the attention it deserves. Bob C. in Ridgeland, Miss. sent me the following email and I thought a quiet, cloudy Sunday morning was just the perfect moment time to post it.

Joe, another content idea of sorts. Reading today’s screencaps and seeing the dad return home from Kuwait to surprise his son at the HS game got me to thinking. Nothing is more American than high school football games on Friday nights. I’ve been out of town the last week and spent Tuesday night in Johnson City TN visiting some of my wife’s relatives. Behind our hotel was Science Hill HS who gave the world none other than the ole ball coach who the field is now named after.

Driving up the road to Bristol and waiting for the speedway to open, I came across the Bristol TN high school field. It is the most unique high school stadium I have ever seen. Looks like something from a GOT episode. Anyway, when content traffic gets slow and the TNML action dies down, maybe readers could submit pictures/history on their local high school stadiums with a bent for the unique ones not found in nature. The same could go for the high school basketball gyms (think Hickory HS in Hoosiers) as well during the cold, dark winters as readers dream of warmer weather, Fenway-esque striping, and battling armyworms.

Attached are a couple of pictures from Science Hill HS. Nothing really unique about it except it’s named after their HOF alum. I’ll send another email with the Bristol TN HS stadium pictures/videos.

Wasn’t able to go to Ole Miss vs UT game in Knoxville this past weekend although my SIL went and got nailed in the back of the head with a bottle of water which got him a visit with the paramedics. Will be in Oxford this weekend for the Ole Miss vs LSU game. It’ll be Manning day where they will retire Eli’s number 10. Not to mention the whole coach O and Kiffin relationship for a backdrop. Should be fun (if Ole Miss wins) but at the least it will be interesting.

So now it's time for Screencaps readers to do their part. Bill wants to see the interesting high school stadiums out there. Try to think of the more unique stadiums across this country. I'd love to hear about far-off stadiums in remote parts of this country. Let's hear about places like Liberty Center, Ohio, (pop. 1,180) which I wrote about back in the spring where locals came out to watch field turf be installed on their field.

Do it for Bob. Share the unique aspects of those local HS football stadiums.

I missed the initial call for battery-powered feedback.

I bought a Craftsman 20V dual battery mower from Lowes after I fired my lawn guy.  It was $299 and came with TWO 4Amp 20V batteries, which I can also use on the string trimmer, drill & driver, tire inflator, etc.  Here’s where you get it a bit backwards: Each battery is $99, so I basically got a mower for $99.  Bonus: it’s light and nimble enough that my 9 year old can now mow the front yard by himself with my supervision.  About halfway through his first cut, he flexed his guns and said, “I’m a man now!” in full view of everyone driving by!

• Looking for a nice, relaxing story to read today before the NFL games? Mike T. in Idaho suggests this story on a guy who raised a 1972 GMC 3500 from the dead and gave it new life. Bob Fulmer of Mount Laurel, NJ bought the truck for $400 and now look at it!

• Ever have one of those moments where you find the perfect farm for your kids to experience during the Halloween season where they can fight each other on stacked straw bales and play soccer in a straw bale arena? Thank you Trabbic Farm in Monroe County, Michigan.

The kids didn't complain when it was time to go to bed and I was able to sit & watch college football and boxing in peace. These two went at it hard for nearly 2 1/2 hours. There was the corn maze, wrestling in the straw bale maze, ramming into the soccer arena walls, petting the farm animals, strongman competitions with the pumpkins.

It was a good day.

• Speaking of boxing, did you see Muhammad Ali's grandson fight last night on ESPN? It was his second pro bout and they threw Nico Ali Walsh in against a 36-year-old Toledoan making his second pro fight. Ali's grandson won by TKO in the 3rd round when the Toledo fighter's ring threw in the towel.

• And with that, it's time to relax this Sunday morning and mentally prepare for my Bengals to face the Ravens. Yes, I'm stressed.
