Billy Joel Has Been Taking Train To Madison Square Garden Shows, Hasn't Been Mugged

The next time you think you see a celebrity or famous athlete out in public, you may want to do a double-take because it very well may be them.

Whether it's Shohei Ohtani previously taking Oakland's BART train to an Angels-Athletics game or, most recently, music icon Billy Joel revealing that he's been taking the Long Island Railroad to Madison Square Garden for his shows, you're never quite sure who you may run into.

BILLY JOEL IS A MAN OF THE PEOPLE

During an appearance this past week on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the iconic Piano Man explained that he has ditched his private helicopter to slum it like the rest of us on mass transit. Since 2014, Joel has had a monthly residency at Madison Square Garden, where he has played an astounding 90+ times. He used to take his helicopter from his Long Island mansion and get dropped off at a helipad just blocks away, but Billy says he's not only Movin Out but also Moving On from that lifestyle.

"I now take the Long Island Railroad", Joel told Colbert, citing that the turbulence of the helicopter started making him feel sick in recent months. "People will sometimes look at me on the railroad and think, ‘Look at this guy, trying to look like Billy Joel. He’s not kidding anybody," Joel continued, adding that his team still has concerns about him as they are worried that if people do recognize him that it would cause a "big megillah."

JOEL HAS PLAYED MSG MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE

Alright, so first off the fact that he's taking the LIRR to his own show is pretty awesome, although you have to wonder if he's a bit bummed that nobody has called him out yet, right? Also, I find it kind of hilarious that he could just be chilling in a window seat and some 40-year-old women who have too much perfume on and a hairdo that is out of touch as they try to relive their Billy Joel show days from their 20s are sitting near him just babbling on about the show. What happens if they start ripping the set list or God forbid they say he's looking old these days?!

Truth be told, Billy Joel's feelings getting hurt should be the least of his concerns. He should be more concerned about getting mugged or robbed as NYC, and especially the mass transit system, continues to deteriorate into a crime-ridden cesspool. In fact, just last week someone on the LIRR got slashed in the face with a knife by some random psychopath.

Billy Joel will wrap up his MSG residency on July 25th with his upcoming 100th show being tapd and filmed for a CBS special in mid-April.
