Colts QB Philip Rivers Admits This Could Be The End

It's no sure thing that quarterback Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts make the playoffs. In fact, the Colts will need a win vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, as well as some help from other teams.

So what's it all mean for Rivers, who's 39 years old and on a one-year contract? It means that, yes, it could potentially be the end. Rivers admits that he has thought about that reality -- that Sunday could be the final game of his career.

“It did cross my mind. If things don’t go the way you want this weekend, it could be ... I guess it’s healthy to have that thought because we’re not guaranteed anything going forward,” Rivers told reporters.

Not only will the Colts need to beat the Jaguars (no sure thing, given that the Jaguars beat the Colts in Week One for their lone win), but they also need the Cleveland Browns to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Indianapolis can get in a couple of other ways, and you can check out the all the crazy AFC scenarios here at OutKick.

But just know it will take a minor football miracle for the Colts to see the postseason, even though they were briefly in the AFC South driver's seat earlier this year.

Colts coach Frank Reich recently said he expects that Rivers has "multiple good years ahead of him." That may be true, but with a one-year contract, there's no telling what the immediate future holds for Rivers.
