Atlanta Area Could Lose $100 Million With MLB All-Star Game Move

It has not been a good week for the city of Atlanta, which will lose a ton of money now that Major League Baseball will move the 2021 MLB All-Star Game to another city.

A report from Yahoo Sports says that local businesses are going to get crushed by MLB's short-sighted decision, as they will lose more than $100 million in lost tourism dollars. A big part of the lost income is the reported 8,000 hotel rooms that will no longer be needed.

Atlanta's WSB-TV stated the following about the income that will be lost, getting info direct from the Cobb County Travel and Tourism Bureau.

“This event would have directly impacted our county and the state, as visitors spend their dollars on local accommodations, transportation, entertainment and recreation, food and retail throughout the county,” Cobb County Travel and Tourism said.

“This would have been a big boost to Cobb businesses and help with recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“We are proud of the work that many community partners have dedicated to planning the All-Star Game activities,” the bureau said.

“We will continue, as we always do, to show who we are in Cobb through our outreach, customer service and hard work.”

Major League Baseball supposedly made the decision to move the All-Star Game in defense of "voter rights," which has been a hot topic in the state of Georgia for a while now.

The game will now likely shift to Colorado at the home of the Rockies.
