Clay: Cowardly NBA Media Refuses To Press LeBron On Space Jam's China Release

As far as we can tell, the only time LeBron James has mentioned China in the past year or so is when he criticized former Rockets GM Daryl Morey for tweeting out support for democracy in Hong Kong.

But the fact that LeBron has stayed silent on the communist nation isn't entirely his fault. After all, the NBA media that covers James -- and seeks his highly liberal opinion on multiple social justice issues -- has refused to bring up China as well.

The reason this is news is two-fold. First, no American pro sports league in history has made more money off its business partnership with China than today's NBA. Second, there are massive and well-documented abuses of Muslim minorities taking place in concentration camps in China. Given the NBA's cozy relationship with China, you'd think they would want to take a stand for human rights.

Just imagine if what's taking place in China were taking place in, say, Atlanta. Certainly the NBA would condemn it. Certainly, the NBA would have moved its All-Star Game out of the city. Certainly, James would be asked, ad nauseam, about the atrocities being committed against his fellow humans. And certainly he would offer a strong opinion.

But that's not the case at all. "Why should LeBron care about what's happening in another country," is what the NBA media and Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy have implied. What they fail to mention is that the very country that fills their bank accounts, their major business partner, is literally torturing people.

And no one dares to ask LeBron or the NBA about any of this, even as the laughable remake of Michael Jordan's classic Space Jam is set to air in Chinese theaters. OutKick founder Clay Travis weighed in on this very topic.

So really, it's hard to figure out which is worse -- LeBron's silence on China, or the media -- the same media that asks for his take on so many things outside of basketball -- not even mentioning it.
