Jimmy Smith is a Jacksonville Jaguars legend.

The former star wide receiver spent three lackluster seasons with the Cowboys and Eagles before arriving in Jacksonville in 1995. He then spent 11 remarkable seasons with the Jags, racking up nine 1,000-yard seasons and 67 touchdowns.

In other words, he's one of the greats. He had some legal troubles over the years, but Smith is still a well-respected member of the Jags family.

He ruffled a few feathers this week though. The 52-year-old believes his former team made the right call signing Tim Tebow, even though several people in the media have criticized Jacksonville -- and the rest of the NFL -- for not giving Colin Kaepernick the same opportunity.

Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson recently said that Tebow got a chance to continue his career because he's white. When Smith was asked by TMZ Sports to respond to that claim, this is what he had to say:

"It doesn't matter whether you're black or white," Smith said. "What matters is that you've got a great example of a player in Tim Tebow. Alright? That's the guy I want to associate with. What has Tim Tebow done to these people, besides be a competitor, be a winner?

"Tim Tebow is going to be great in whatever capacity he is utilized in Jacksonville. And I pray that he makes the 53-man roster because we need all we can get with our young quarterback. We needed competition. We needed the right attitude. We needed a guy who was walking by faith, who's only done great things."

That's awfully high praise for Tebow, right? I'm sure there are a lot of people out there -- media, former and current athletes, fans, etc. -- who aren't happy with Smith for saying all that. But just wait until they hear about what the Hall of Fame nominee for 2021 had to say about Kaep.

"We don't need Colin Kaepernick on our team -- you know, with our young franchise, our young players -- to divide our locker room," Smith said. "We need a guy like Tim Tebow, who's a hometown hero and has love for the city anyways."

Just watching Smith in the interview, you can tell he's a "Ride or Die" for Jacksonville. He loves the franchise, and he loves the city. He believes that Tebow is a much better fit for his former team. What do you think?
