Bryson May Have A New Caddie Volunteer: Sir Charles

If Bryson DeChambeau hasn’t yet found a new caddie, Charles Barkley is volunteering to shoulder his bag. Ahead of Tuesday evening’s fourth edition of “The Match,” Barkley complimented DeChambeau before some playful ribbing: “I can’t wait (for 'The Match'). I’ve never met Bryson DeChambeau. I can’t wait to meet him. He’s a stud. I might caddie for him. He’s got an opening right now, apparently.” Barkley made his comments towards the end of an episode of TNT’s Inside The NBA.

Last fall, Barkley teamed with Phil Mickelson in the third installment of "The Match." Though “Lefty” and “Hefty” got the best of Peyton Manning and Steph Curry, Mickelson is teaming with Tom Brady this time around and Barkley will be a part of the broadcast team.

Sir Charles jokingly questioned the decision to break up the defending champs and pair Mickelson with Brady, telling Dan Patrick: “I’m just disgusted by Phil Mickelson. I cannot believe that he want to play with this mother instead of me. … Me and Phil were the defending champs, but I can’t believe he gonna stick with this mother — I can’t say what Tom said (on The Shop) — but I can’t believe he want to stick with this mother instead of me.”

The Mickelson/Brady pairing is currently listed as +146 on FanDuel, with Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers the favorites at -192.

Barkley doesn’t envision Brady’s odds changing much if he and the seven-time Super Bowl winner were to go hole for hole: “(Brady is) overrated, overrated; he’s overrated. Flash in the pan, I don’t know if he’s ever going to be successful at anything.

“He’s a really nice person; he’s a really nice person. I think he’s the greatest athlete arguably ever; I do, I truly believe that. He’s clearly the greatest football player ever, but I think he’s in the conversation with Ali, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky. Those are the greatest ever; that’s just my personal opinion. … I like to bash him because he got a great sense of humor, but I don’t think Tom can beat me in golf. I really don’t. Not right now he can’t,” per The Dan Patrick Show.

"The Match 4" tees off Tuesday at 5pm ET on TNT.
