WNBA player Brittney Griner made a direct appeal to President Joe Biden for her freedom on Monday.
“I’m terrified I might be here forever,” she wrote in a letter passed through her representatives. “I realize you are dealing with so much, but please don’t forget about me and the other detainees … Please do all you can to bring us home.”
Griner is being detained in Russia after officials found hashish oil in her luggage at an airport near Moscow, OutKick previously reported. Her trial began Friday.
“The cynic would look at it … now [and say], ‘you want to go back to how you honor the country when you were so disrespectful of the country while you were here?'” Dan Dakich said on Tuesday. “Well, that’s fine. I get it. But that’s your right as an American citizen to be disrespectful of her country, at least verbally, while she was here. And of course, we all get lessons on how important it is that we have our freedom and how great it is that we live in a country that provides that freedom.”
In her letter to Biden, Dakich summarized Brittney’s message as: ‘hey, the previous president got these basketball players out of China, what are you doing to help me out here?’
