Screencaps reader & his friends created their own Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

From Phillly Kev:

“Hey Joe, Love your morning screenshots on Outkick, usually love your takes as they often fall into alignment with how I see the world, read them every morning, sometimes I fall behind but always catch up. Today I took a look at your Thursday edition and noticed you mentioned how silly for lack of a better word the Rock n Roll HOF has become specifically noting Maiden missing the cut and the Go’s Go’s getting in on their 1st ballot. Not the 1st time my friend. Soundgarden missed the cut last year while Whitney Houston got in, the definition of absurdity!

“Well me and several of my guys did something about it…we created our own Rock n Roll HOF. Probably too much to explain here in a DM but we have been at it for over a year. Dates back to pre Covid days. We had selected the members of our HOF, determined each person top 25 bands to include the groups overall top 25 based on our individual rankings, individual top 25 albums, and are currently narrowing down march madness style the winner of our One Hit Wonder 128 song tournament…just in case you are wondering we nominated and voted to fill in the 128 songs.

“Anyway thought you would enjoy taking a look at what we have done while sitting on the patio listening to some yacht rock while hammering down some Busch Lights.

Guys, I’m telling you, I LOVE what we have built here in the Screencaps community in such a short period of time. Philly Kev read the weather report. He clearly knows Friday was an incredible fire pit night. He knows I’m having a great patio weather weekend here in Ohio and I NEED this list in my life.

Here’s the Top 10 on the Top 128 Songs List built by Philly Kev and his friends:

•  “Safety Dance” – Men Without Hats

• “Copperhead Road” – Steve Earle

• “In a Big Country” – Big Country

• “S.O.B” – Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats

• “My Sharona” – The Knack

• “No Rain” – Blind Melon

• “Total Eclipse of the Heart” – Bonnie Taylor

• “867-5301 Jenny” – Tommy Tutone

• “99 Luftballoons” – Nena

• “Brandy (you’re a fine girl)” – Looking Glass

The list includes many of the classics you’ve come to love over the years like “You Spin Me Round” by Dead or Alive, “Rappers Delight” from The Sugar Hill Gang, “Funkytown” by Lipps Inc. & one of his friends even threw in “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice.

I asked Philly Kev if this list is public so you guys can take a look and maybe add a few songs to your patio playlists for the summer. Stay tuned.

  1. I might add Groove Is In The Heart by Deee-Lite as a top one hit wonder.

I always thought the Knack was an interesting band. Had several fun songs. Lead singer Doug Feiger was the brother of famed attorney Jeffery Feiger who most notably represented Jack Kevorkian the right to assisted suicide doctor. Also My Sharona has a really cool guitar solo that was cut from the radio version back when radio was a thing.

I picture Gronk trying to figure out what times 7 equals 32.
