Yankees Will Escape With Win On Getaway Day

Yankees vs. Blue Jays, 3:07 ET

Yankees vs. Blue Jays, 3:07 ET

I went just 1-1 yesterday and didn't lose a dime. That really isn't the norm for a day, though. If you "break-even" record-wise, you still typically lose juice, but there are so many opportunities for plus money plays in baseball that you can find good chances to stay afloat even if you do end up .500 on certain days. You could've gone 2-0 if you took the Rays moneyline as they did pull it out in extra innings, but the run line bet was a loser. We are going back to a series we've already taken some cash home in this week as the Yankees and Blue Jays play the third, and final, game of the series.

I have to imagine that the Yankees are looking to get out of Canada after losing the first to games of the series. Maybe they can make it a better trip tonight as they can at least salvage one game. These games have been tight as the two teams have combined to score only 13 total runs in the two games. The Yankees offense was kept at bay for most of the game as they could only muster one earned run off of Toronto starter Yusei Kikuchi. When they got into the Toronto bullpen, they were able to get a couple runs on the board, but it wasn't enough as that cut the lead to 5-3 at that point. Today, they should have the edge for the pitching matchup as Marcus Stroman takes the hill. Stroman, the former Blue Jay, has put together a strong start to the season. In his first two outings, he went 12 scoreless innings and allowed just seven total hits. In his last game, against Miami, it was more of a struggle as he allowed four earned runs on four hits and four walks over five innings. The second start of his season came against the Blue Jays and he allowed just three hits to them and one walk. The Yankees offered him no run support though as the Yankees lost the game 3-0.

The Blue Jays are finding their groove. I mentioned yesterday that the MLB did them no favors with a 10-game road trip to start the season. Since returning home they are on a four-game winning streak and 6-2 overall. With wins the past two days, they've also secured three straight series victories over their opponents. Now they look for the sweep. The good news if you're a Blue Jays fan is that Toronto still has a lot of room for improvement. Obviously, they will need to keep this success up on the road, but there are other areas that the team needs to increase productivity. One of the biggest needs for the team is to get Kevin Gausman back on track. He has struggled quite a bit the past two games. One of those was against the Yankees as he went just 1.1 innings and allowed five earned runs, including two home runs. The next game, the first time he pitched at home this season, he allowed six earned runs on 10 hits over 3.2 innings. He hasn't completed five innings in any of the three games.

I'm not willing to bet that Gausman has corrected whatever the issue is. He has been a good pitcher for quite some time, but this is probably the worst back-to-back starts of baseball I've seen him have in the past few years. Looking back, he has had some struggles, but he tends to snap out of them. I just don't think it is smart to bet on the Blue Jays today. The Yankees want to escape with a win. Both pitchers are looking to rebound from a bad start, and I think Stroman can deliver a win for the Yankees. Maybe the game goes under, but I'll back the Yankees here at -110. Under 8.5 is a decent look as well.
